{"id":297270,"date":"2023-11-15T10:58:29","date_gmt":"2023-11-15T09:58:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=297270"},"modified":"2023-11-15T10:58:29","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T09:58:29","slug":"court-revokes-ex-agof-co-defendant-bail-in-alleged-n109bn-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/11\/15\/court-revokes-ex-agof-co-defendant-bail-in-alleged-n109bn-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Court revokes ex-AGoF co-defendant bail in alleged N109bn fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Akindele and the former AGF are on trial for the illicit diversion of public funds to the tune of N109.5 billion<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has revoked the bail previously granted to Geoffrey Akindele, one of the defendants in the trial involving former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.<\/p>\n<p>Akindele and the former AGF are on trial for the illicit diversion of public funds to the tune of N109.5 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Idris Mohammed, Kudu Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited are the other defendants.<\/p>\n<p>Only Idris and Usman were present when the case was called on Tuesday, which prompted Justice Yusuf Halilu to inquire about Akindele\u2019s whereabouts from the defendant\u2019s attorney, S. E. Adino.<\/p>\n<p>Akindele\u2019s attorney, Adinoi, informed the judge that his client was on his way to the hearing and had regularly attended previous ones.<\/p>\n<p>The judge declared that a defendant who was granted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/11\/08\/breaking-court-grants-former-cbn-governor-godwin-emefiele-bail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bail<\/a> was obligated to return the favour by consistently showing up in court.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, revoked his bail, directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the prosecuting agency, and the Commissioner of Police in the FCT to arrest Akindele and bring him before the court on the next adjourned date.<\/p>\n<p>Halilu, however, adjourned the hearing to February 1, 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Akindele and the former AGF are on trial for the illicit diversion of public funds to the tune of N109.5 billion The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has revoked the bail previously granted to Geoffrey Akindele, one of the defendants in the trial involving former Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.
