{"id":299671,"date":"2023-12-05T06:58:20","date_gmt":"2023-12-05T05:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=299671"},"modified":"2023-12-05T06:58:20","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T05:58:20","slug":"zamfara-return-official-vehicles-in-your-possession-court-orders-ex-gov-matawalle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/05\/zamfara-return-official-vehicles-in-your-possession-court-orders-ex-gov-matawalle\/","title":{"rendered":"Zamfara: Return official vehicles in your possession, court orders ex gov, Matawalle"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>A statement on Monday by Governor Dauda Lawal\u2019s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that the Federal High Court rejected Bello Matawalle\u2019s claims over the ownership of the official vehicles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto has ruled that former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/11\/26\/mass-exodus-from-zamfara-communities-as-bandits-seize-110-residents\/\">Zamfara<\/a> State Governor, Bello Matawalle, cannot lay claims to the ownership of official vehicles he took away on leaving office last May.<\/p>\n<p>This is as the trial court dismissed a suit he filed challenging the State government right to retrieve the cars from him<\/p>\n<p>Recall that in June, the police raided Matawalle\u2019s residences and seized the vehicles as ordered by the court.<\/p>\n<p>A statement on Monday by Governor Dauda Lawal\u2019s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that the Federal High Court rejected Bello Matawalle\u2019s claims over the ownership of the official vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the former governor and his cabinet members had taken away all official vehicles belonging to the state government, leaving the present administration with nothing to use.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said, \u201cRecall that in June, the Zamfara State government gave the former Governor and his deputy five working days to return all official vehicles taken away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll demands for the return of the said vehicles proved abortive, and as a result, the Zamfara State government resorted to obtaining a court order to retrieve them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn pursuit of that order, a total of over 50 vehicles were recovered by the police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the vehicles were recovered, Bello Matawalle quickly rushed to the Federal High Court in Gusau.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court granted an order for the cars to be returned to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, he filed a separate suit at the same court seeking to enforce his fundamental right to own property, including the vehicles in question.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Zamfara State Government requested the transfer of the case to another jurisdiction of the Federal High Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Federal High Court of Nigeria, Sokoto Judicial Division, dismissed the matter on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court refused the reliefs sought by Bello Matawalle and rejected his claim to the ownership of the official vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result, the vehicles are still considered the property of the Zamfara State government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur government is committed to recovering all that rightfully belongs to the people through an all-encompassing rescue mission that will leave no stone unturned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe judgment by the Federal High Court will encourage us to ensure that justice prevails and all perpetrators of financial banditry in Zamfara are brought to book<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A statement on Monday by Governor Dauda Lawal\u2019s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that the Federal High Court rejected Bello Matawalle\u2019s claims over the ownership of the official vehicles.
