{"id":300044,"date":"2023-12-07T21:04:32","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T20:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=300044"},"modified":"2023-12-07T21:04:32","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T20:04:32","slug":"ncs-cg-denies-dss-efcc-attempt-to-abduct-emefiele","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/07\/ncs-cg-denies-dss-efcc-attempt-to-abduct-emefiele\/","title":{"rendered":"NCS CG Denies DSS, EFCC Attempt To Abduct Emefiele"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The court made an order admitting him to bail on conditions which, to the best of our knowledge, are yet to fulfil the bail condition.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>The correctional centre can confirm that he (Emefiele) is in their custody, ostensibly because of the reason of non-fulfillment of the bail condition<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Haliru Nababa, the Controller General of Nigeria&#8217;s Correctional Service (NCS), has refuted reports that the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was forcibly removed from the agency&#8217;s care.<\/p>\n<p>He said that no such attempt was made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission or the Department of State Services.<\/p>\n<p>In response to a petition filed by the Centre for Social Justice, Equity, and Transparency, he made this statement on Thursday when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Etaba, the chairman of the committee, however, dismissed the petition on the grounds that it was subjudice.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cthis matter is in court, we can\u2019t forge ahead with this matter because it is subjudice to us. This matter is hereby dismissed from this committee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sylvanus Tahir (SAN), Director, Legal and Prosecution Department of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/07\/olukoyede-never-said-seven-of-10-nigerian-students-are-criminals-efcc\/\">EFCC<\/a>, said it was inappropriate to entertain the petition as it bordered on a subsisting court matter.<\/p>\n<p>Nababa, who was represented by the Assistant Controller-General in Charge of Operations, Nwakeze Emmanuel, said such attempted abduction did not happen<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as we are concerned, we are not aware of any alleged attempt to forcefully release Emefiele as he is still in our custody, bubbling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>EFCC\u2019s legal representative, Tahir, had earlier said, \u201cThe petition which we perused borders on a pending court case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a subsisting criminal charge against Emefiele on whose behalf the petitioners have petitioned.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The court made an order admitting him to bail on conditions which, to the best of our knowledge, are yet to fulfil the bail condition.
