{"id":300333,"date":"2023-12-09T19:00:47","date_gmt":"2023-12-09T18:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=300333"},"modified":"2023-12-09T19:00:47","modified_gmt":"2023-12-09T18:00:47","slug":"uk-court-orders-pid-ltd-to-pay-nigeria-20m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/09\/uk-court-orders-pid-ltd-to-pay-nigeria-20m\/","title":{"rendered":"UK court orders P&amp;ID Ltd. to pay Nigeria \u00a320m"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>The court proceedings also considered whether P&amp;ID would be granted permission to appeal the case<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A UK Court has ordered Process &amp; Industrial Developments (P&amp;ID) Limited to compensate Nigeria with \u00a320 million as damages following Nigeria&#8217;s successful defense against an $11 billion judgment debt.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/08\/zamfara-court-sentences-man-to-death-for-killing-friend-over-n100\/\">court<\/a> mandated the payment to be made to Nigeria within the next 28 days.<\/p>\n<p>This disclosure of the \u00a320 million damages was part of a consequential ruling in London, assessing the aftermath of the October judgment.<\/p>\n<p>The court proceedings also considered whether P&amp;ID would be granted permission to appeal the case.<\/p>\n<p>Despite P&amp;ID&#8217;s attempt to take the matter back to arbitration, the Court denied permission, citing the company&#8217;s reprehensible conduct during the process as the basis for the judgment.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria had sought to reclaim at least \u00a320 million from P&amp;ID to cover its damages and legal expenses.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria had in October, received great relief as the UK court set the country from its entanglement in the $11bn judgment debt previously awarded in favour of P&amp;ID Limited.<\/p>\n<p>In a judgment delivered by Justice Robin Knowles of the Commercial Courts of England and Wales, in the case between the Federal Government of Nigeria and P&amp;ID, the court had upheld Nigeria\u2019s prayer that the gas processing contract was obtained by fraud.<\/p>\n<p>In the judgment delivered after five years of legal battle, Judge Knowles had said: \u201cIn the circumstances and the reasons I have sought to describe and explain, Nigeria succeeds on its challenge under section 68. I have not accepted all of Nigeria\u2019s allegations.
