{"id":300903,"date":"2023-12-14T12:39:18","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T11:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=300903"},"modified":"2023-12-14T12:39:18","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T11:39:18","slug":"breaking-rivers-state-attorney-general-resigns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/14\/breaking-rivers-state-attorney-general-resigns\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Rivers State Attorney-General resigns"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>His resignation was communicated in a letter dated November 14, 2023, and addressed to Governor Sim Fubara<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State, Zacchaeus Adangor, has resigned from his office.<\/p>\n<p>His resignation was communicated in a letter dated November 14, 2023, and addressed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/12\/alleged-defection-of-rivers-lawmakers-aimed-at-impeaching-governor-fubara-pdp-chieftain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor Sim Fubara<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that his exit from office was based on personal principles and not connected to the political crisis currently rocking the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hereby give Your Excellency Notice of my resignation as the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Rivers State with effect from the date of this letter.<\/p>\n<p>For the avoidance of doubt, from the said office is based on personal principles,\u201d the letter read in part.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the former governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr Dakuku Peterside, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the unfolding political crisis in Rivers State and save the state from going up in flames.<\/p>\n<p>Peterside, who also urged the president to place the interest and the people of the state above every other consideration, also appealed \u201cto all genuine elders and well-meaning youths of the state to oppose the politics of destruction and personality cults.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peterside, in a statement, expressed shock, disgust, and disbelief over what he called the \u201congoing ugly descent into anarchy of governance and public affairs and the naked display of anti-democratic and anti-people actions by some political actors in Rivers State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cFrom the reported defection of 27 supposed Honourable members of Rivers State House of Assembly to the demolition of the permanent site of the Assembly complex for renovation, there is no better phrase to describe what my Rivers State has become other than a shameful state of anomie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former lawmaker lamented what he described as a ranked display of mockery of democracy and mindless destruction of everything democracy by the same people who should be defending it.<\/p>\n<p>He added that it is sad that in the past few weeks, the peace, stability, and development of the state have been sacrificed on the altar of selfish political agenda, ego, and narrow interests of a few.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>His resignation was communicated in a letter dated November 14, 2023, and addressed to Governor Sim Fubara The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State, Zacchaeus Adangor, has resigned from his office.
