{"id":300943,"date":"2023-12-14T16:09:14","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T15:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=300943"},"modified":"2023-12-14T16:09:14","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T15:09:14","slug":"nysc-denies-paying-ransom-to-rescue-4-kidnapped-corps-members-in-zamfara","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/14\/nysc-denies-paying-ransom-to-rescue-4-kidnapped-corps-members-in-zamfara\/","title":{"rendered":"NYSC denies paying ransom to rescue 4 kidnapped corps members in Zamfara"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>NYSC noted that since their release, it is shouldering the responsibility of their medical bills where they are recuperating<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) vehemently refuted a widespread claim suggesting payment to terrorists for the release of abducted corps members in Zamfara.<\/p>\n<p>Eddy Megwa, NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, clarified in a press statement that security operatives facilitated the rescue of the corps members, emphasizing that no money exchanged hands with the terrorists throughout the rescue operation.<\/p>\n<p>The statement reads: \u201cThe attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to the news making rounds in the public that Akwa Ibom Government and some concerned individuals paid for the release of the kidnapped prospective corps members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo put the records straight, the release of the prospective corps members kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to report at Orientation camp in Sokoto State was primarily on the combined effort of the security agents and the National Youth Service Corps. It is also noteworthy to state that no state government, individual or agency paid any amount in the guise of ransom before their release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe management of National Youth Service Corps, since their release, is shouldering the responsibility of their medical bills where they are recuperating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe management therefore disassociates itself from the claim that Akwa Ibom State Government or any other state Government paid money for their release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe management of the scheme is very much aware of different account numbers and names currently being circulated in the public calling for financial donations towards paying ransom for the release of the prospective corps members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is however impressive to note that so far the management of National Youth Service corps and security agents have succeeded in securing the release of four (4) out of the eight (8) kidnapped prospective corps members without paying any amount of money and still working relentlessly towards securing the release of the remaining prospective corps members in the hands of the kidnappers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Youth Service Corps is ever committed towards the welfare and security of the corps members and will continue to intensify synergy with security agencies towards the safety of the corps members,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NYSC noted that since their release, it is shouldering the responsibility of their medical bills where they are recuperating The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) vehemently refuted a widespread claim suggesting payment to terrorists for the release of abducted corps members in Zamfara.
