{"id":301086,"date":"2023-12-15T13:13:13","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T12:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=301086"},"modified":"2023-12-15T13:13:13","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T12:13:13","slug":"kanus-counsel-reveals-next-move-after-supreme-court-blocks-ipob-leaders-freedom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/15\/kanus-counsel-reveals-next-move-after-supreme-court-blocks-ipob-leaders-freedom\/","title":{"rendered":"Kanu\u2019s counsel reveals next move after Supreme Court blocks IPOB leader&#8217;s freedom"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Within Nigeria had earlier reported that the Supreme Court on Friday, reversed the judgment of the Appeal Court ordering the release of the embattled IPOB leader from detention<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Kanu Agabi, lead counsel to the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, says he&#8217;s suffused with a twin note of satisfaction and disappointment after the Supreme Court judgement on his client&#8217;s release.<\/p>\n<p>Within Nigeria had earlier reported that the Supreme Court on Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/15\/just-in-supreme-court-rules-on-nnamdi-kanus-freedom\/\">reversed the judgment<\/a> of the Appeal Court ordering the release of the embattled IPOB leader from detention.<\/p>\n<p>In a judgment delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim but written by Justice Garba Lawal, the apex court voided and set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal, which in October last year ordered Kanu\u2019s release and quashed the terrorism charges against him.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, Kanu\u2019s lead counsel who spoke with journalists shortly after the judgement, said he was optimistic the separatist leader would get the desired justice.<\/p>\n<p>According to the lawyer, the case would subsequently return to the high court and get the case over and done with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had hoped that it would come our way but it has gone the other way. It simply means that we have to go back to the high court and get done with this quickly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still have hope. We are not in despair. We lost a little time, and we have to go back. That is what it means\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, expressed satisfaction in part of the judgement delivered at the apex court, particularly on the revocation of Kanu\u2019s bail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019m very consoled with what the Supreme Court said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court said Kanu ought not to have been treated the way he was treated. The court said his bail ought not to have been revoked and his house ought not to have been invaded.
