{"id":301152,"date":"2023-12-15T21:05:52","date_gmt":"2023-12-15T20:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=301152"},"modified":"2023-12-15T21:05:52","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T20:05:52","slug":"dont-abuse-ippis-exemption-rep-cautions-universities-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/15\/dont-abuse-ippis-exemption-rep-cautions-universities-others\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t abuse IPPIS exemption, Rep cautions universities, others"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>He urged the management of these institutions to make prudent use of this exemption<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Abubakar Fulata, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on University Education, emphasized the responsibility of universities and other tertiary institutions not to misuse their exemption from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Friday, Fulata praised President Bola Tinubu for the decision to remove tertiary institutions from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2022\/09\/29\/strike-fg-begs-asuu-to-accept-ippis\/\">platform<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the management of these institutions to make prudent use of this exemption.<\/p>\n<p>Recalling that on December 13, the Federal Executive Council exempted tertiary institutions from IPPIS, Fulata emphasized the importance of responsible management practices within these institutions given this newfound flexibility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are most grateful to the President, who has shown that he is a democrat and has a listening ear and an interest in education at heart.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUniversities have been yearning, and some of us in the National Assembly have been advocating for the removal of tertiary institutions from IPPS because it is anti-intellectual, anti-academic, and retrogressive,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said there were enabling laws that gave the councils and boards of tertiary institutions the power of recruitment and payment.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the powers were taken away by the IPPIS, while commending the President for removing the obstacles to recruitment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unheard of that an entire university has to seek the permission of the Head of Service of the Federation, the Federal Character Commission, and about five Ministries, Departments and Agencies before recruiting a cleaner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are the powers of the councils of these institutions through their enabling acts,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He urged the management of these institutions to make prudent use of this exemption Abubakar Fulata, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on University Education, emphasized the responsibility of universities and other tertiary institutions not to misuse their exemption from the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
