{"id":301737,"date":"2023-12-19T14:42:14","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T13:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=301737"},"modified":"2023-12-19T14:42:14","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T13:42:14","slug":"my-wife-can-only-divorce-me-if-she-pays-me-n1m-man-tells-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/19\/my-wife-can-only-divorce-me-if-she-pays-me-n1m-man-tells-court\/","title":{"rendered":"My wife can only divorce me if she pays me N1m, Man tells court"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>She also said claim by Yunusa that he spent a million naira on her was false as she had been living with her parents for more than two years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>One Nasiru Yunusa has said he will only grant the request of his wife, Aisha Hamisu, to dissolve their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/11\/07\/tinubu-to-launch-birth-death-marriage-registration-portal\/\">marriage<\/a> if he receives a financial compensation from her.<\/p>\n<p>Yunusa, a businessman, gave the condition when he appeared before an Upper Area Court in Kubwa, FCT.<\/p>\n<p>Yunusa and Hamisu tied the nuptial knot according to Islamic laws sometime in 2021 and are blessed with a 13-month-old daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Hamisu approached the court seeking the dissolution of her marriage with Yunusa, citing lack of care and respect for her decision.<\/p>\n<p>She said that Yunusa packed her belongings from his house to her father\u2019s house on April 19, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Yunusa, however, said he wanted Hamisu to return to his house but would grant her a divorce if she agreed to compensate him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d I have spent money on a lawyer for court proceedings which has been going on and all I have spent on her is N1 million which I am ready to prove,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the plaintiff said that she does not love Yunusa and cannot live with him.<\/p>\n<p>She also said claim by Yunusa that he spent a million naira on her was false as she had been living with her parents for more than two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt is not true that he has spent N1 million on me because I have been with my parents for the past two and a half years after he dumped my property at their doorstep.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had our daughter through a cesarean section at Kubwa General Hospital and he did not pay a dime for the hospital bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am ready to pay him back the dowry of N50,000 only to him, \u201dshe said.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge, Mohammed Wakili, adjourned the matter until Jan 8 for the continuation of hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>She also said claim by Yunusa that he spent a million naira on her was false as she had been living with her parents for more than two years.
