{"id":301775,"date":"2023-12-19T18:00:19","date_gmt":"2023-12-19T17:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=301775"},"modified":"2023-12-19T18:00:19","modified_gmt":"2023-12-19T17:00:19","slug":"stop-rejecting-persons-with-disabilities-nigerian-government-urges-education-stakeholders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/19\/stop-rejecting-persons-with-disabilities-nigerian-government-urges-education-stakeholders\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop rejecting persons with disabilities \u2014 Nigerian government urges education stakeholders"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>The minister&#8217;s message was conveyed by his Special Adviser, Technical, Mrs. Clarence Ujam<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, emphasized the importance of education stakeholders refraining from rejecting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) within school environments.<\/p>\n<p>He made this plea during the Federal Ministry of Education&#8217;s observance of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/13\/senate-minority-leader-abba-moros-aide-kidnapped-in-abuja\/\">Abuja<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The minister&#8217;s message was conveyed by his Special Adviser, Technical, Mrs. Clarence Ujam.<\/p>\n<p>The occasion, themed \u201cUnited in Action to Rescue and Achieve the SDGs For, With, and By Persons With Disabilities,\u201d was organised in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, project.<\/p>\n<p>Sununu commended the AGILE programme for championing the cause of PWDs, especially in seeing that persons with disabilities have a voice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is disheartening to note that some people still perceive disability negatively; superstition and ignorance have greatly influenced their attitudes towards persons with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the rights of people with disabilities are not given to them.
