{"id":302870,"date":"2023-12-26T23:09:26","date_gmt":"2023-12-26T22:09:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=302870"},"modified":"2023-12-26T23:09:26","modified_gmt":"2023-12-26T22:09:26","slug":"apc-warns-lgas-banks-over-kano-govts-plan-to-spend-n8bn-councils-funds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/26\/apc-warns-lgas-banks-over-kano-govts-plan-to-spend-n8bn-councils-funds\/","title":{"rendered":"APC Warns LGAs, Banks Over Kano Govt\u2019s Plan To Spend \u2018N8bn Councils\u2019 Funds\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The Chairman of the Kano state chapter, Abdullahi Abbas, urged officials of the 44 local councils in the state not to partake in alleged moves by government functionaries<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>He also warned commercial banks involved in the alleged deal to halt the process of clearing the release of the monies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>An alleged plan by the Kano State Government to squander N8 billion in local government council monies without justification has alarmed the All Progressives Congress, or APC.<\/p>\n<p>This was said in a statement made in Abuja on Tuesday by the state&#8217;s APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/09\/30\/nigeria-will-be-great-again-speaker-abbas-assures\/\">Abbas<\/a> pleaded with the state&#8217;s commercial banks and local government councils to stop facilitating the delivery of monies to the state administration.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that this resulted from the state&#8217;s political unrest following the eagerly anticipated Supreme Court ruling on the gubernatorial election.<\/p>\n<p>Abbas said that the development appeared to be pushing the NNPP government to take over the functions of local government councils in order to misappropriate their funds, amounting to over N8 billion.<\/p>\n<p>He said the APC had obtained a copy of the letter of approval from the Ministry for Local Government directing the 44 local government councils to release N101 million each for the construction Dan\u2019Agundi interchange and N36 million each for the construction of Tal\u2019udu interchange .<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe approval letter, which was sent to all council\u2019s chairmen and copied to the Auditor-General, Local Government Audit and all zonal inspectors of the ministry, was for the contribution of the councils to the projects.<\/p>\n<p>Abbas said that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/08\/appeal-for-peace-leaders-of-apc-and-nnpp-in-kano-encouraged-ahead-of-supreme-court-verdict\/\">NNPP government<\/a> removed and posted new Directors of Personnel Management (DPMs) and treasurers.<\/p>\n<p>This, according to him, was to ensure that there were no hitches in muscling the local councils through the embezzlement of their funds.<\/p>\n<p>He called on the NNPP\u2019s government to consider the interest of the people of state, saying that the decision to embark on such projects had come under attack by people within the NNPP\u2019s fold<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chairman of the Kano state chapter, Abdullahi Abbas, urged officials of the 44 local councils in the state not to partake in alleged moves by government functionaries He also warned commercial banks involved in the alleged deal to halt the process of clearing the release of the monies.
