{"id":303245,"date":"2023-12-28T20:29:29","date_gmt":"2023-12-28T19:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=303245"},"modified":"2023-12-28T20:29:29","modified_gmt":"2023-12-28T19:29:29","slug":"fg-reveals-date-to-shut-section-of-third-mainland-bridge-for-repairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/28\/fg-reveals-date-to-shut-section-of-third-mainland-bridge-for-repairs\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Reveals Date To Shut Section Of Third Mainland Bridge For Repairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Ms Kesha said the closure would be done on the Lagos Island-bound carriageway of the bridge.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>The Federal Controller of Works had earlier disclosed in October 2023 that plans for a comprehensive overhaul of the Third Mainland Bridge\u2019s asphalt layers, were in place.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Federal Ministry of Works has announced that the Iyana-Oworonsoki end of the Third Mainland Bridge will require urgent repairs.<\/p>\n<p>This section\u00a0is\u00a0set\u00a0to\u00a0close\u00a0on\u00a0January\u00a09,\u00a02024.<\/p>\n<p>Olukorede Keisha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201cThe Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, wishes to inform the motoring public that the emergency repairs of Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will continue with the closure of Iyana Oworonshoki- Adeniji Adele bound for the effective repairs of the entire section of the bridge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Consequent to the above, motorists were advised to use alternative routes, like the Ojota \u2013 Ikorodu road- Funsho Williams Avenue \u2013 Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS- Ojota- Ikorodu Road- Jibowu \u2013 Yaba- Oyingbo-Iddo- Carter Bridge- CMS, and the Gbagada- Anthony- Ikorodu Road- Funsho Williams \u2013 Eko b<br \/>\nBridge- Apogbon \u2013 CMS.<\/p>\n<p>Motorists were further advised to cooperate with traffic management officials deployed to manage traffic and ensure hitch-free movements to minimise discomfort during the repair period.<\/p>\n<p>While thanking the general public for their past cooperation and understanding, Keisha asserted that more was expected this time around.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Controller of Works had earlier disclosed in October 2023 that plans for a comprehensive overhaul of the Third Mainland Bridge\u2019s asphalt layers, were in place.<\/p>\n<p>She said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/13\/nigerian-army-sacks-brigade-commander-over-invasion-of-police-headquarters\/\">bridge<\/a> was a lifeline for commuters in Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Keisha stated, \u201cSo we were saying let us do a complete overhaul of the asphalt overlay. Some of them have been long overdue because we haven\u2019t done that in the last 30 years. It is just the failures that have shown up that we have been addressing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to her, it will be a complete overhaul of the asphalt layer on both sides and then replacing it with new ones to last the next 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cThe Federal government has awarded that contract already, and preparatory works are pending when the contractor moves to the site because there are some elements of repairs that need to be imported.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ms Kesha said the closure would be done on the Lagos Island-bound carriageway of the bridge.
