{"id":304712,"date":"2024-01-08T08:35:28","date_gmt":"2024-01-08T07:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=304712"},"modified":"2024-01-08T08:35:28","modified_gmt":"2024-01-08T07:35:28","slug":"lagos-govt-moves-to-crack-down-on-illegal-buildings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/08\/lagos-govt-moves-to-crack-down-on-illegal-buildings\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos govt moves to crack down on illegal buildings"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>This is part of the State government comprehensive effort to tackle violations of regulations on buildings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/04\/lagos-govt-announces-fresh-closure-of-third-mainland-bridge\/\">Lagos State Government<\/a> has vowed to go after illegal buildings and their owners in 2024, saying it will no longer condone impunity regarding erection of edifices in the state.<\/p>\n<p>This is part of the State government comprehensive effort to tackle violations of regulations on buildings.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide made this known in a recent statement by the Director of Public Affairs, LASPPA, Abimbola Emdin-Umehin Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>Olumide was speaking amid the resumption of the enforcement activities by Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority officials in the Ikeja area.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out the illegality surrounding the building under construction at Isaac John Street by Oba Dosunmu Street, GRA Ikeja, whose developer was granted a 6-floor mixed-use construction by the authority but allegedly illegally added two floors to the ongoing construction.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the developer must satisfy the requirements of the government regarding the construction of the edifice before the building could be unsealed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe developer must meet all attached conditions for the property to be regularised or to remove the additional two floors illegally added before the building can be unsealed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development will work closely with relevant agencies to identify and penalise offenders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government will not tolerate any violations of the laws and will take necessary actions against those who engage in illegal development activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the start of Y2024, the Lagos State Government is determined to crack down on unlawful development activities and ensure strict adherence to the physical planning permit laws, emphasising the importance of maintaining order and creating a safe and organised environment for all residents of Lagos\u201d, he stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is part of the State government comprehensive effort to tackle violations of regulations on buildings.
