{"id":304894,"date":"2024-01-09T08:50:21","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T07:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=304894"},"modified":"2024-01-09T08:50:21","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T07:50:21","slug":"lagos-infant-electrocuted-after-touching-exposed-wire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/09\/lagos-infant-electrocuted-after-touching-exposed-wire\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos: Infant electrocuted after touching exposed wire"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The distraught father said her daughter&#8217;s death had left him in severe pain as she meant so much to him<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A two-year-old girl (identity undisclosed) has been electrocuted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/09\/lagos-court-sentences-guard-to-life-imprisonment-for-raping-13-year-old-girl\/\">Lagos State<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The infant died from electrocution after touching a naked wire connected to her neighbour\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p>The tragedy occurred on January 2, at about 11:30 am in the Langbasa area of the State.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased\u2019s father, Mudashiru, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The distraught father said her daughter&#8217;s death had left him in severe pain as she meant so much to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is indeed a sad incident that my daughter passed on suddenly. My daughter was electrocuted because she touched a wire connected to my neighbour\u2019s gate. The name of my neighbour is Michael. Her death is such a painful one that I do not wish for my enemy because she was the greatest part of my life,\u201d Punch quoted him as saying.<\/p>\n<p>He added that she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and that her body has been deposited in the mortuary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was rushed to a hospital in Addo Road but she was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty. Her body has been deposited in the mortuary. I wish my daughter peace because I will miss her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A neighbour of the deceased\u2019s family who spoke in confidence said that although the residents were usually advised to cover all exposed wires in their homes, the young child was unaware of the wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was just a small girl who probably did not know that what she touched was a naked wire. People here have been warned to always cover any wire they have in their houses especially when they have small children living there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis small girl would not have died if the proper thing was done. I can only console her parents because the deed has been done but what I will advise people on the street is that they should cover the exposed wires they know are connected to electricity so that such occurrence does not repeat itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The state command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, also confirmed the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation has been reported and the investigation is ongoing.
