{"id":304970,"date":"2024-01-09T22:45:40","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T21:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=304970"},"modified":"2024-01-09T22:45:40","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T21:45:40","slug":"agric-ministry-denies-delaying-distribution-of-rice-palliative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/09\/agric-ministry-denies-delaying-distribution-of-rice-palliative\/","title":{"rendered":"Agric ministry denies delaying distribution of rice palliative"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>However, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is not distributing any palliative<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On Tuesday night, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security clarified that it neither distributed nor caused delays in the distribution of rice palliatives to states.<\/p>\n<p>Reports on Tuesday highlighted Deputy House of Representatives spokesperson Philip Agbese&#8217;s assertion, attributing the delay in reaching President Bola Tinubu&#8217;s targeted beneficiaries for rice palliatives to bureaucratic hurdles within the agriculture ministry.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the lawmaker emphasized that the rice palliatives released by the President to House members for distribution among their constituents were accounted for and not missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndeed, the President released palliatives to lawmakers through the Ministry of Agriculture. Lawmakers have accepted that they are expecting the rice. Some have received it; some are yet to receive the rice because of the ongoing bureaucratic process in the ministry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the Ministry of Agriculture has their own contractors and because of the various distances from one state or constituency to the other, not everybody has received, but some lawmakers have received,\u201d Agbese reportedly stated.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday night by the Director Information, FMAFS, Joel Oruche, the ministry said, \u201cThe attention of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has been drawn to stories making the rounds that the ministry is delaying the distribution of rice palliative and wish to state as follows;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is not distributing any palliative. The issue under reference concerns constituency projects budgeted for under the 2023 supplementary appropriation and domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is common knowledge that funds for National Assembly constituency projects are domiciled in the relevant ministry for purposes of implementation.
