{"id":305300,"date":"2024-01-12T06:39:40","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T05:39:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=305300"},"modified":"2024-01-12T06:39:40","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T05:39:40","slug":"lagos-32-yr-old-banker-commits-suicide-over-hardship-bleak-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/12\/lagos-32-yr-old-banker-commits-suicide-over-hardship-bleak-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos: 32-yr-old banker commits suicide over hardship, bleak future"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong> In the suicide note she left behind, she cited perennial hardship, bad decisions and bleak future for her decision<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A thick cloud of despair and agony besieged one of the first-generation banks in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/11\/lagos-partners-uk-to-train-3000-workers-in-digital-literacy\/\">Lagos state<\/a> on Monday after one of its workers took her own life, leaving her colleagues and relatives in pensive and sorrowful state.<\/p>\n<p>The lifeless body of the deceased, identified as Amarachi Ugochukwu, was found on the floor of the bank\u2019s toilet.<\/p>\n<p>A suicide note and a small empty bottle of insecticide, popularly called sniper, whose content she was suspected to have consumed were found on the floor of the toilet.<\/p>\n<p>The late Amarachi, a Marketing staff, according to her colleagues, left her workstation at about noon, on January 8, 2024, to use the restroom.<\/p>\n<p>But when she took longer than usual in the toilet her long absence became noticed, her phone was then repeatedly called but it rang out as she did not take it with her.<\/p>\n<p>Apprehension set in and frantic search to find her began, some of her colleagues were said to have searched for her within the premises.<\/p>\n<p>However, one of them searched for her in the toilet only to found it locked from inside.<\/p>\n<p>Councern mounts and their fear heightened when several knocks on the door were greeted with silence from within.<\/p>\n<p>When the door was forced open, she was found on the floor, motionless.<\/p>\n<p>In the suicide note she left behind, she cited perennial hardship, bad decisions and bleak future for her decision.<\/p>\n<p>A 2024 diary in which she wrote the suicide note read: \u201d Nothing is working in my life. My brain is clogged up. The economy is getting harder. My decisions are wrong. My mind is messed up. The future doesn\u2019t seem bright at all, I see extreme hardship, and I can\u2019t bear the pain anymore. I\u2019m sorry Mom, I\u2019m sorry Dad\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<p>She further apologized to five other persons, mentioning their names and ended the note with \u201cDear Lord, have mercy on me\u201d.<br \/>\nHer colleagues said a doctor who was invited, confirmed she was dead.<\/p>\n<p>A team of policemen from the Ikorodu division that visited the scene upon receiving the information evacuated the corpse to the Ikorodu General Hospital for autopsy.<\/p>\n<p>Police sources hinted that the deceased\u2019s family was contacted.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hudenyi, on the tragedy failed.<br \/>\nBut Police sources hinted that an investigation had begun<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the suicide note she left behind, she cited perennial hardship, bad decisions and bleak future for her decision.
