{"id":306967,"date":"2024-01-23T14:34:21","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T13:34:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=306967"},"modified":"2024-01-23T14:34:21","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T13:34:21","slug":"illegal-mining-powerful-influential-nigerians-behind-banditry-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/23\/illegal-mining-powerful-influential-nigerians-behind-banditry-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal Mining: Powerful, Influential Nigerians Behind Banditry \u2013 FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The minister asserted that powerful Nigerians were responsible for banditry associated with illegal mining in Nigeria<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/18\/zamfara-government-stops-traditional-rulers-from-issuing-mining-letters-over-banditry\/\">banditry<\/a> in Nigerian is a tool used to create unfettered illegal mining activities.<\/p>\n<p>This is as he reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to ending illegal mining in the country\u2019s mining sector.<\/p>\n<p>Alake made this known when he led a Federal Government delegation to pay a condolence visit to the Oyo State Government over last Tuesday\u2019s explosion at Bodija estate in Ibadan.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the perennial insecurity in the country, especially banditry and terrorism, was a front for illegal mining.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that these nefarious activities of armed non-state actors which were being associated with the mining sector were actually sponsored by illegal miners who are powerful people in the society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are lots of connivance among the strata of the society \u2014- both high, medium and low classes of the society \u2014- in the nation\u2019s mining sector.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the Federal Government is working together with the state and local governments, as well as the host communities, who have efficient knowledge of the local terrain to address the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIllegal mining is not exclusive to the high class alone, but cuts across the strata of our society.
