{"id":307481,"date":"2024-01-26T14:10:06","date_gmt":"2024-01-26T13:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=307481"},"modified":"2024-01-26T14:10:06","modified_gmt":"2024-01-26T13:10:06","slug":"gov-adeleke-suspends-provost-osun-college-of-education-ila-orangun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/26\/gov-adeleke-suspends-provost-osun-college-of-education-ila-orangun\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov Adeleke suspends Provost, Osun College of Education, Ila-Orangun"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Suspension in line with the interim report of the Investigation Panel headed by the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Kazeem Akinleye<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has approved the suspension of Prof Jimoh Atanda Afolabi, the Provost of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension which is with immediate effect, is according to a statement by Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to Governor Adeleke in line with the interim report of the Investigation Panel headed by the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Kazeem Akinleye.<\/p>\n<p>The statement, which was made available on Friday, added that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/01\/adeleke-targets-agro-industrial-economy-for-osun\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Governor<\/a> also approved the recommendation of the committee that the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Peter Babalola remain in office as there is no proven case of abuse of power or financial wrongdoings against him.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, \u201cThe allegation of over two hundred million Naira fraud levelled against the Council Chairman was found to be unsubstantiated with documentary proof or transaction details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cash advance of three million Naira to the council chairman was found to be within the college\u2019s financial regulations with all documentation verified by the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on a thorough review, the committee discovered that the allegation of N200m fraud levelled against the Chairman of the Governing Council is untrue, diversionary, baseless, and fallacious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDocumentary evidence (voucher) revealed that he only collected a sum of three million Naira (N3m) as a cash advance which is officially allowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the Provost, the Committee reviewed three previous reports of investigations into various allegations of financial malfeasance, abuse of power and corruption levelled against him dating from past administrations to date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee after a thorough review of the reports including that of the State House of Assembly alongside its own investigations recommended immediate suspension of the Provost, which is now endorsed by the State Governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSequel to the findings of the investigative Panel, the Provost of Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, Prof. Jimoh Atanda Afolabi is hereby suspended on the grounds of financial impropriety, concealment of official information\/ records; and failure to update the Governing Council on the important issues of the College.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee is billed to submit its final report at a later date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall that trouble started early in January, when the Chairman of the College Governing Council, Peter Babalola, suspended Prof Afolabi for financial misappropriation.<\/p>\n<p>To stop the ensuing crisis from snowballing, the state government inaugurated a three-man panel of enquiry headed by the Chief of Staff to the state governor.<\/p>\n<p>The panel later reinstated the Provost, Prof Afolabi, pending the outcome of an investigation by the panel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Suspension in line with the interim report of the Investigation Panel headed by the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Kazeem Akinleye The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has approved the suspension of Prof Jimoh Atanda Afolabi, the Provost of the Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun.
