{"id":307787,"date":"2024-01-28T18:00:39","date_gmt":"2024-01-28T17:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=307787"},"modified":"2024-01-28T18:00:39","modified_gmt":"2024-01-28T17:00:39","slug":"corrupt-governance-responsible-for-insecurity-banditry-in-north-shettima","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/28\/corrupt-governance-responsible-for-insecurity-banditry-in-north-shettima\/","title":{"rendered":"Corrupt governance responsible for insecurity, banditry in North \u2014Shettima"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>He urged leaders to prioritize good governance<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Vice President Kashim Shettima asserted that the crises of insecurity and banditry in the Northern part of the country are attributed to corrupt governance.<\/p>\n<p>Shettima conveyed this message during the 10th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation lecture and award in Maiduguri, hosted by Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/20\/civil-rights-group-slams-borno-governor-zulum-for-allegedly-excluding-christian-from-palliatives\/\">Zulum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Represented by his special adviser on Political Affairs, Hakeem-Baba Ahmed, the vice president emphasized the departure from the legacy of accountability, fairness, and probity set by Sardauna, identifying corruption as a fundamental cause of insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Zulum echoed these sentiments, blaming corruption for the country&#8217;s governance challenges and urging leaders to prioritize good governance.<\/p>\n<p>The guest speaker, Nigeria\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, called on the policy makers to address abuse of power and insecurity challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the reason why Sardauna is being glorified is the value of teamwork, resilience and commitment to the provision of qualitative education, agriculture, and infrastructural development.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman of Northern Governors Forum, Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya noted that good governance is the only way out of the insecurity in the region and the country as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>Emeritus professor Umaru Shehu, Aisha Muhammed Nahuce, Professor Deborah Eniho and Adams David Baiki were among those that were awarded by the foundation.<\/p>\n<p>The 11th Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture is to be hosted by Bauchi State in 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He urged leaders to prioritize good governance Vice President Kashim Shettima asserted that the crises of insecurity and banditry in the Northern part of the country are attributed to corrupt governance.
