{"id":308441,"date":"2024-02-01T16:42:32","date_gmt":"2024-02-01T15:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=308441"},"modified":"2024-02-01T16:42:32","modified_gmt":"2024-02-01T15:42:32","slug":"fg-spends-n1bn-yearly-on-faan-officials-transport-between-abuja-and-lagos-keyamo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/02\/01\/fg-spends-n1bn-yearly-on-faan-officials-transport-between-abuja-and-lagos-keyamo\/","title":{"rendered":"FG spends N1bn yearly on FAAN officials&#8217; transport between Abuja and Lagos \u2013 Keyamo"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Keyamo made the disclosure on Thursday in a statement clarifying his \u2018N500 million FAAN workers\u2019 DTA\u2019 comment on Channels Television<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says the back and forth between Abuja and Lagos by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, officers comes at huge financial cost to the government.<\/p>\n<p>Keyamo disclosed that the Nigerian Government spends N1 billion annually on Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) and air tickets for FAAN officials who shuttle between Abuja and Lagos to perform their duties.<\/p>\n<p>Keyamo made the disclosure on Thursday in a statement clarifying his \u2018N500 million FAAN workers\u2019 DTA\u2019 comment on Channels Television.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, in 2023, FAAN workers spent N493,678,620.37 on DTA and N451,058,950.09 for air tickets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I did my Channels TV interview yesterday, I was not briefed about the amount FAAN spent last year alone on DTA (Duty Tour Allowance) for the principal officers who travelled back and forth from Lagos to Abuja almost daily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amount came up to N493,678,620.37. Aside from the air tickets, which I mentioned amounted to N451,058,950.09.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, in total, because of insistence on naming Abuja as the headquarters of FAAN (when there are no offices in Abuja to accommodate all the principal officers), FAAN spent close to N1 billion in one year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the minister insisted on going ahead with the Federal Government\u2019s decision to relocate FAAN headquarters to Lagos despite opposition from certain quarters.<\/p>\n<p>On January 19th, 2023, Keyamo announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/01\/31\/just-in-no-going-back-on-faan-relocation-to-lagos-keyamo\/\">relocation of FAAN headquarters<\/a> from Abuja to Lagos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Keyamo made the disclosure on Thursday in a statement clarifying his \u2018N500 million FAAN workers\u2019 DTA\u2019 comment on Channels Television The Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says the back and forth between Abuja and Lagos by Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, officers comes at huge financial cost to the government.
