He said he had also visited facilities in Olorunsogo, Ogun State and Omotosho in Ondo to better understand the challenge<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Power Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, announced that the federal government plans to establish a committee to address power blackouts in specific regions.<\/p>\n<p>This statement was issued via his official X account following a meeting with electricity distribution and generation companies held on Friday in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/02\/02\/police-arrest-eight-armed-robbers-on-kaduna-abuja-road\/\">Abuja<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have decided to form a committee involving all stakeholders. Together, we will work on recommendations to resolve these issues and ensure a more reliable and consistent power supply for our citizens,\u201d said Mr Adelabu.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said he discussed with distribution companies on Thursday to address blackouts in some parts of the country. He said he had also visited facilities in Olorunsogo, Ogun State and Omotosho in Ondo to better understand the challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPower supply during the yuletide improved, but unfortunately, we have experienced setbacks in the New Year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter investigations, it is clear that the main cause of poor power supply is the low supply of gas to GenCos,\u2018\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said resolving the gas supply issue was a top priority in the Ministry of Power agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Adelabu said a plan had also been established to initiate discussions with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources regarding collaboration and to emphasise the importance of prioritising gas to power.<\/p>\n<p>He said that during the meeting, indebtedness to GenCos by Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) was also addressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c While acknowledging the sector\u2019s liquidity challenge, we are working on validating the debt and determining a fair resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI emphasised the importance of GenCos establishing contractual arrangements with gas suppliers to ensure a steady gas supply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecognising concessions may be needed, I assure you that we are committed to working on this to stabilise the power sector.
