{"id":309399,"date":"2024-02-08T23:13:08","date_gmt":"2024-02-08T22:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=309399"},"modified":"2024-02-08T23:13:08","modified_gmt":"2024-02-08T22:13:08","slug":"four-women-two-men-arraigned-over-alleged-assault-on-lizzy-anjorin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/02\/08\/four-women-two-men-arraigned-over-alleged-assault-on-lizzy-anjorin\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Women, Two Men Arraigned Over Alleged Assault On Lizzy Anjorin"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>All the defendants denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The court ordered that all the defendants be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) till when they will meet the bail terms and adjourned the case to March 11 for mention.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A total of six traders have been charged with assault and blackmailing well-known actress Lizzy Anjorin-Lawal.<\/p>\n<p>They appeared before Lagos Island Local Government&#8217;s Chief Magistrate Court and were charged.<\/p>\n<p>Before Magistrate A. A. Paul, the following people were arraigned: Qudus Jokogbola, Suru Olawale, Edu Shakirat, Fausat Mohammed, Kafayat Ahmed, and Opere Simiat Morenike.<\/p>\n<p>Two other suspects were reportedly out on the loose.<\/p>\n<p>The police said on Thursday that the six defendants and the two other people who are still at large carried out the alleged offences on Monday around 1:30 p.m. on Lagos Island within Oba Akintoye Market.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor, Sola Samuel informed the court that all the six individuals and two others said to be at large, conspired among themselves and forcefully pushed and dragged Anjorin, the action that caused her grievous bodily harm.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor also told the court that the defendant\u2019s actions caused a breach of public peace.<\/p>\n<p>He told the court that the offences committed by the defendants contravened sections 411 and 413; 168(d) and 170(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. And punishable under the same Act.<\/p>\n<p>All the defendants denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.<\/p>\n<p>Following their stance on the allegations, their lawyer, Ade Oshodi, who led the other six lawyers, informed the court that his clients were traders, urging that they be granted bail in the most liberal terms.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrate, Paul, in his ruling, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N200 000 with one surety in like sum<\/p>\n<p>The magistrate also ordered the sureties be residents of Lagos State with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State government, among others.<\/p>\n<p>The court ordered that all the defendants be remanded in the custody of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/12\/21\/no-jailbreak-attacks-in-2023-ncos\/\">Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS)<\/a> till when they will meet the bail terms and adjourned the case to March 11 for mention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All the defendants denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against them.
