{"id":310504,"date":"2024-02-16T18:03:57","date_gmt":"2024-02-16T17:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=310504"},"modified":"2024-02-16T18:03:57","modified_gmt":"2024-02-16T17:03:57","slug":"eu-to-invest-e37m-in-nigerias-power-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/02\/16\/eu-to-invest-e37m-in-nigerias-power-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"EU to invest \u20ac37m in Nigeria\u2019s power sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Isopi also used the opportunity to invite the minister to an upcoming inauguration of two projects funded by the EU and implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation(UNIDO)<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The European Union (EU) says it is set to invest 37million Euros into Nigeria\u2019s power sector.<\/p>\n<p>Ambassador Samuela Isopi, the EU Head of Mission to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/02\/16\/nigeria-u-s-sign-mou-on-cultural-heritage-preservation\/\">Nigeria<\/a>, made this statement during her visit to Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, in Abuja on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Accompanied by Mr. Luca Massimo, the new Head of Cooperation of the EU, and Mr. Godfrey Ogbemudia, Programme Manager on Energy, Isopi mentioned that the funds discussed were separate from the approximately 200 million Euro grants invested in the sector since 2008.<\/p>\n<p>She detailed the EU&#8217;s ongoing intervention programs in the power sector, highlighting support for small hydro-power, solar for healthcare facilities, rural electrification with isolated and interconnected mini-grids, and circular economy projects. Isopi confirmed that these projects would commence soon.<\/p>\n<p>Isopi also used the opportunity to invite the minister to an upcoming inauguration of two projects funded by the EU and implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation(UNIDO).<\/p>\n<p>Responding, the minister, who received the ambassador in company of his Chief Technical Advisor, Mr Adedayo Olowoniyi , expressed appreciation to the EU for the support it has been giving to the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Adelabu said that more support was needed to address the enormous challenges in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the issue of liquidity was the main problem that the government is trying its best to resolve.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said that the market would only be sustainable and run efficiently when there is a cost reflective tariff in place.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, he was pleased with the EU programmes for the sector and confirmed their alignment with the ministry\u2019s strategy.<\/p>\n<p>The minister promised to work with the EU on its programmes especially on small hydro and state electrification projects within the new Electricity Act.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Isopi also used the opportunity to invite the minister to an upcoming inauguration of two projects funded by the EU and implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organisation(UNIDO) The European Union (EU) says it is set to invest 37million Euros into Nigeria\u2019s power sector.
