{"id":310693,"date":"2024-02-18T13:37:16","date_gmt":"2024-02-18T12:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=310693"},"modified":"2024-02-18T20:04:49","modified_gmt":"2024-02-18T19:04:49","slug":"why-are-they-quite-ex-nhis-boss-yusuf-bemoans-south-east-silence-on-economic-hardship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/02\/18\/why-are-they-quite-ex-nhis-boss-yusuf-bemoans-south-east-silence-on-economic-hardship\/","title":{"rendered":"Why are they quiet? \u2013 Ex-NHIS boss, Yusuf bemoans south east silence on economic hardship"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He also expressed concern over the silence of the South Eastern part of the country amid the pl\u00e9thore of troubling challenges facing the country.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Professor Usman Yusuf, former Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, say president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/02\/16\/tinubu-appoints-lagos-ex-commissioner-jide-idris-as-ncdc-dg\/\">Bola Tinubu<\/a> must do something drastic to address the widespread hardship in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He advised the President to import food, flood the market and to tackle the pervasive hunger before things get too late.<\/p>\n<p>Yusuf gave the advice when he featured on Arise Television\u2019s Morning Show programme on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He also expressed concern over the silence of the South Eastern part of the country amid the pl\u00e9thore of troubling challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n<p>There have been protests against widespread hunger in some parts of the country, most of them from the south west and northern part of the country.<\/p>\n<p>However, Yusuf found it surprising that the South East has remained calm.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI honestly don\u2019t know why the South East is quiet, uncharacteristically quiet. But the President needs to find out. The North is where I know I live; even my heritage is. The silence in the North is more lethal than anywhere else in the country. And the President needs to listen to that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe silence in the North, from the people of the North in spite of the suffering people are going through, is more lethal than people coming out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going into the month of Ramadan, people are going to pray. We ask the President to buy food, flood the market and feed the people before things get too late.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole country is suffering. There\u2019s hunger in the land. We hope you listen. Don\u2019t listen to your advisers.
