Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has stated that some unpatriotic citizens have continued to undermine his policies aimed at curbing insecurity and strengthening the economy.<\/p>\n

This was stated by President Buhari while speaking at the sixth regular meeting with the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC) on Friday.<\/p>\n

Buhari said such persons are rather bent on wreaking havoc on the nation.<\/p>\n

Recall that President Buhari in March directed security agencies to shoot anyone seen with AK-47 while ordering a clampdown on bandits.<\/p>\n

The president, however, said despite his order, bandits<\/a> and smugglers have continued their criminal activities.<\/p>\n

He also said even though the nation\u2019s land borders were closed, illegal arms and other smuggled items still somehow found their way into the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people are mercilessly against this country. We closed the borders to control the smuggling of petroleum products, and check the influx of smuggled goods, arms and ammunition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was when the comptroller-general of Customs called me, saying 40 tankers laden with petrol had been impounded. I told him to sell the fuel, sell the trucks, and put the money in the treasury.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey still brought arms and ammunition into the country, brought in rice in vehicles and motorcycles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said shoot anyone found illegally with AK-47, yet they haven\u2019t stopped. People must show consideration for their own country.\u201d<\/p>\n

On food security, Buhari said his administration will focus on development of irrigation facilities in the country, and also encourage more people to go into agriculture.<\/p>\n

He noted that agriculture is a good way for the country to overcome the economic challenges confronting it.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to go back to the land. Technology is doing away with petroleum, but we are lucky we have other resources \u2014 gas, vast arable land, which we are not using enough,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
