Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, announced the apprehension of individuals engaged in unauthorized mineral processing at a facility in Idi-Ayunre, Oluyole Local Government Area.<\/p>\n
The governor shared this information on his social media account on Saturday, emphasizing the action as part of the continuous efforts to prevent incidents similar to the Bodija explosion in January 2024.<\/p>\n
Oyo Affairs, a local news outlet, reported that the governor directed the arrest of four individuals who allegedly operated without the proper license approved by the government for business activities in the state.<\/p>\n
In his post, Makinde wrote, \u201cIn our efforts to prevent a recurrence of the Bodija Incident, we were at Idi-Ayunre, following a tip off about a facility which was being used to process illegally mined minerals.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can report that those involved have been arrested and are in custody and we are working to prosecute them.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur government has also taken over the facility pending the investigations and prosecution.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were able to apprehend the culprits because the government and citizens worked together in a timely manner to bust their operations.\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor further highlighted the challenge of extraditing Malians indicted in the Bodija explosion.<\/p>\n
He wrote, \u201cLet me take this opportunity to report that we are still trying to extradite the Malians indicted in the Bodija Incident who are on the run.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are having difficulties because Mali pulled out of ECOWAS. We will continue to deploy diplomatic means to ensure they are brought to book.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease continue to support our efforts to rid our State of illegal activities.<\/p>\n

The Bodija incident, which took place on January 16, 2024, involved an explosion reported to be caused by illegally stored explosives in a residential area.<\/p>\n
