{"id":312738,"date":"2024-03-03T08:00:56","date_gmt":"2024-03-03T07:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=312738"},"modified":"2024-03-03T08:00:56","modified_gmt":"2024-03-03T07:00:56","slug":"why-christians-should-stop-giving-their-offerings-to-churches-kumuyi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/03\/03\/why-christians-should-stop-giving-their-offerings-to-churches-kumuyi\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Christians should stop giving their offerings to churches \u2013 Kumuyi"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He implored Christians not to give their offerings to the Church but rather give it to the impoverished and jobless people in their communities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Doctor William <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/10\/26\/ive-no-plan-to-retire-kumuyi\/\">Folohunso Kumuyi<\/a>, has admonished Christians to use their offerings to better the lives of the downtrodden and have-nots around them.<\/p>\n<p>He implored Christians not to give their offerings to the Church but rather give it to the impoverished and jobless people in their communities.<\/p>\n<p>Kumuyi gave the admonition in a video that has gone viral.<\/p>\n<p>The cleric told his church congregation that Christians should not spend all their money on building churches, noting that while building churches is not a bad thing, Christians must not forget their neighbours struggling to fend for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cLook at all this offering we\u2019re collecting. This church has silver and gold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI learned of a preacher somewhere who was having their church service. And he said, \u2018Now we\u2019re going to collect the offering. If you have N10,000, N20,000, or N50,000, raise your hand, and they will be faithful\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen he stood up and said \u2018that N10,000, N20,000, and N50,000 go to the poor in your community. All the offering is not just church, there are poor, unemployed people around\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are indigent people around. We will build ours, but while you\u2019re building, your neighbours are dying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour neighbour, who does not have anything, your sisters, and your brother have nothing to send their children to school. We built DLICC (Deeper Life International Conference Centre) with all the offerings we could build.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we can now be at ease and allow our members to die of hunger and to be destroyed because they have nothing and we have the money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what if this church, like we used to do in the olden days, in the good old days that we reserve some amount of money for charity? That we allocate some amount of money for building DLICC, and the district church, and the people we\u2019re building for are dying of hunger, malnutrition, and starvation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s budget part of the money, millions of our currency to take care of the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhich one comes first when your house is leaking, and your mother is dying? How will you spend it\u2014mending the leaking room or taking care of your mother?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should give priority to members of our church, even those who are not members. We know them, and we can contact them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should not spend all our money on a building of a church that will not be raptured when Christ comes, because Christ is coming,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He implored Christians not to give their offerings to the Church but rather give it to the impoverished and jobless people in their communities.
