{"id":315921,"date":"2024-03-24T10:17:08","date_gmt":"2024-03-24T09:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=315921"},"modified":"2024-03-24T10:17:08","modified_gmt":"2024-03-24T09:17:08","slug":"nlc-to-inec-abure-violating-court-order-wash-your-hands-off-illegal-lp-national-convention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/03\/24\/nlc-to-inec-abure-violating-court-order-wash-your-hands-off-illegal-lp-national-convention\/","title":{"rendered":"NLC to INEC: Abure violating court order, wash your hands off &#8216;illegal&#8217; LP national convention"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The NLC alleged that the LP Chairman, Julius Abure and his cohorts of planning an illegal convention in brazen violation of court orders<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/03\/22\/abure-accuses-nlc-leader-of-stealing-workers-salaries-during-lps-headquarters-invasion\/\">Nigeria Labour Congress<\/a>, NLC, has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to be a party to the Labour Party, LP, National Convention scheduled for March 27, 2024<\/p>\n<p>In a letter addressed to the Chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu, NLC ccautioned the electoral umpire against validating the &#8216;illegal&#8217; convention.<\/p>\n<p>The NLC alleged that the LP Chairman, Julius Abure and his cohorts of planning an illegal convention in brazen violation of court orders.<\/p>\n<p>NLC noted that such a national convention was illegal due to standing court rulings that declared the LP\u2019s status and ordered inclusive conventions.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter by the NLC\u2019s solicitors, Falana and Falana\u2019s Chambers, dated March 22, 2024,<br \/>\nand signed by Marshal Abubakar, NLC threatened legal action if INEC failed to comply with the demand.<\/p>\n<p>The letter titled, \u201cRequest To Desist From Validating The Illegal Labour Party National Convention Scheduled For March 27, 2024,\u201d reads, \u201cWe are solicitors to the Nigeria Labour Congress, on whose behalf we write this letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has come to our notice that Mr Julius Abure, the Chairman of the Labour Party, and a handful of his supporters are planning to hold a national convention of the Labour Party on March 27, 2024, at Abia, Abia State, with the active connivance of some officials of the commission under your able leadership.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you are no doubt aware, a national convention conducted by the Abure faction will be violative of the judgment of the Federal High Court in Suit no. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/866\/2014 between Labour Party and 3 Ors. vs. Com. Salisu Muhammed, where the court had declared the Labour Party as \u2018an institutional political party founded, promoted, and registered by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on behalf of the Nigerian Workers\u2019, and thus ordered the factions to \u2018convene an expansive and inclusive national convention of the party.\u2019 Please find attached a CTC of the judgment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimilarly, the plaintiffs in Suit No. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/491\/2021 between Labour Party &amp; 9 Ors. vs. Barrister Julius Abure&amp; 2 Ors. had approached the Federal High Court seeking, inter alia, an order of injunction in favour of the plaintiffs restraining the first (Barrister Julius Abure), second (Umar Farouk), and third (Barr. Akingbade Samuel Oyelakin) defendants, or any and\/or all of the national officers appointed in any manner violative of the orders of the Federal High Court in suit no. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/866\/2014 between Labour Party &amp; 3 Ors. vs. Com.
