{"id":316075,"date":"2024-03-25T13:57:30","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T12:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=316075"},"modified":"2024-03-25T13:57:30","modified_gmt":"2024-03-25T12:57:30","slug":"binance-executive-fled-nigeria-using-a-smuggled-passport-nsa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/03\/25\/binance-executive-fled-nigeria-using-a-smuggled-passport-nsa\/","title":{"rendered":"Binance executive fled Nigeria using a smuggled passport\u2014NSA"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He noted security agencies are working with Interpol for an international arrest warrant on the suspect<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has confirmed the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/03\/25\/breaking-fg-files-tax-evasion-charges-against-binance\/\">Binance<\/a> regional manager for Africa.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by Zakari Mijinyawa, head of strategic communication at ONSA, said<br \/>\npreliminary investigation shows that Mr Anjarwalla fled Nigeria using a smuggled passport<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe personnel responsible for the custody of the suspect have been arrested, and a thorough investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his escape from lawful detention,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>ONSA said \u201cupon receiving this report, this office took immediate steps, in conjunction with relevant security agencies, MDAs, as well as the international community, to apprehend the suspect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSecurity agencies are working with Interpol for an international arrest warrant on the suspect,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRecall that the Federal Government of Nigeria, like other governments around the world, has been investigating money laundering and terrorism financing transactions perpetrated on the Binance currency exchange platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil his escape, Nadeem Anjarwalla, who holds British and Kenyan nationalities and serving as Binance\u2019s Africa regional manager, was being tried by Nigerian courts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect escaped while under a 14-day remand order by a court in Nigeria.
