{"id":317034,"date":"2024-04-01T10:33:12","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T09:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=317034"},"modified":"2024-04-01T10:33:12","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T09:33:12","slug":"kano-hospitals-board-sacks-3-medical-staff-for-alleged-extortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/01\/kano-hospitals-board-sacks-3-medical-staff-for-alleged-extortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Kano hospitals board sacks 3 medical staff for alleged extortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>The board also suspended 3 others; the accountant, auditor and head of laboratory of the hospital for selling free HIV test kits<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has dismissed three medical staff at the Kabo General Hospital following an unannounced inspection visit.<\/p>\n<p>The board also suspended 3 others; the accountant, auditor and head of laboratory of the hospital for selling free HIV test kits.<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr Mansur Nagoda, announced the sanctions after an unscheduled inspection visit to the facility.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by Samira Sulaiman, Spokesperson of the board, said on Monday that Dr. Nagoda who was accompanied by Director General KNCDC, Dr Muhammad Abbas and Director General SAKA , Dr Usman Bashir, expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the public facility.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dr Nagoda, the dismissed staff of the X-ray units were caught charging the sum of N12,000 for a procedure that is officially approved for N2,000.<\/p>\n<p>Worst still, the statement said,innocent patients were being forced to pay the illegal charges without any document to show as evidence of payment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This act of sabotage and extortion has sent many patients away, thereby leaving the facility to carry out less than 10 X-ray\u2019s per week despite the fact that the two X-ray batteries are functional,\u201dthe executive secretary said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the suspended accountant, auditor and head of laboratory are to report to the board&#8217;s headquarters for further disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These decisions we took should serve as a deterrent to others.
