{"id":317490,"date":"2024-04-04T13:45:43","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T12:45:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=317490"},"modified":"2024-04-04T13:45:43","modified_gmt":"2024-04-04T12:45:43","slug":"why-nigerians-in-private-schools-are-exempted-from-students-loan-scheme-house-of-reps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/04\/why-nigerians-in-private-schools-are-exempted-from-students-loan-scheme-house-of-reps\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Nigerians in private schools are exempted from students&#8217; loan scheme \u2013 House of Reps"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He, however, stated that the scheme could be expanded in the future to cover students in the private schools<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Nigerian lower legislative body, House of Representatives, has said Nigerians attending private universities won&#8217;t benefit from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/03\/just-in-tinubu-signs-national-students-loan-amendment-bill-into-law\/\">student loan scheme.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Isiaka Gboyega, the Chairman of the House Committee on Tertiary Education and Student Loans, disclosed this on Wednesday while addressing newsmen.<\/p>\n<p>He said the scheme didn&#8217;t cover private tertiary institutions because of the high cost of school fees in those schools.<\/p>\n<p>Gboyega explained that the school fees of a student in private school could pay the fees of many in public school.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu signed the student loan bill on Wednesday, which excludes private school students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn applicant for a loan under this Act must \u2013 be a citizen of Nigeria;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHave secured admission into any university, polytechnic, college of education established by the Federal Government or State Government, or a vocational or skills acquisition school licensed by the Federal Government,\u201d section 23 of the Act reads.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the exclusion of the private schools, Mr Gboyega said \u201cFor anyone that has the capacity to send his\/her children to where\u2014some of those private schools, you would agree with me that the need for a loan of this scheme is probably minimal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He, however, stated that the scheme could be expanded in the future to cover students in the private schools.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He, however, stated that the scheme could be expanded in the future to cover students in the private schools The Nigerian lower legislative body, House of Representatives, has said Nigerians attending private universities won&#8217;t benefit from the student loan scheme.
