{"id":318252,"date":"2024-04-10T14:25:18","date_gmt":"2024-04-10T13:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=318252"},"modified":"2024-04-10T14:25:18","modified_gmt":"2024-04-10T13:25:18","slug":"interior-minister-denies-announcing-gov-aiyedatiwa-as-tinubus-preferred-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/10\/interior-minister-denies-announcing-gov-aiyedatiwa-as-tinubus-preferred-candidate\/","title":{"rendered":"Interior Minister denies announcing Gov Aiyedatiwa as Tinubu\u2019s preferred candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>urged the public to disregard the misinformation contained in the viral news article<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disassociated himself from a report that President Bola Tinubu picked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State as his preferred candidate for the Nov.16 Governorship election in the state.<\/p>\n<p>A statement issued by Babatunde Alao, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister, on Wednesday, also described as false the purported appointment of the minister as leader of the All Progressives Congress, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/10\/plateau-assembly-crisis-uncertainty-over-fate-of-7-apc-lawmakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">APC<\/a>, in Ondo State.<\/p>\n<p>Alao, who was reacting to the social media publication, described the report as baseless and fictitious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, Tunji-Ojo completely disassociates and distances himself from the purported appointment as it holds no truth whatsoever,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The media aide added that there was no meeting held in Abuja between the minister and APC Chairmen and leaders from the 18 local government areas of Ondo State, as alleged in the article.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe minister is aware that the party\u2019s governorship primary election is days away, and he has advised aspirants to embrace the spirit of love and sportsmanship,\u201d Alao said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the President, as the father of the nation and as the leader of the party, is a democrat whose interest is always to promote unity and peace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, he would not want to involve himself in any action that would undermine that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The special adviser urged the public to disregard the misinformation contained in the viral news article and to always rely on credible sources for accurate information.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>urged the public to disregard the misinformation contained in the viral news article The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disassociated himself from a report that President Bola Tinubu picked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State as his preferred candidate for the Nov.16 Governorship election in the state.
