{"id":318890,"date":"2024-04-15T15:22:46","date_gmt":"2024-04-15T14:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=318890"},"modified":"2024-04-15T15:22:46","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T14:22:46","slug":"national-grid-collapse-caused-by-fire-outbreak-power-restored-tcn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/15\/national-grid-collapse-caused-by-fire-outbreak-power-restored-tcn\/","title":{"rendered":"National grid collapse caused by fire outbreak, power restored \u2013 TCN"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>However, Mbah said power had been restored after the grid collapsed for the fifth time in 2024<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the partial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/15\/total-blackout-as-national-grid-collapses-again\/\">collapse of the national grid<\/a> was triggered by a fire outbreak at the Afam power generating station in Rivers.<\/p>\n<p>The company said the fire, which caused blackouts in some parts of country, broke out at about 2:41 a.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>TCN\u2019s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, made this known in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>However, Ms Mbah said power had been restored after the grid collapsed for the fifth time in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt 02:41Hrs today, 15th April 2024, a fire erupted at the Afam V 330kV bus bar coupler, leading to the tripping of units at Afam III and Afam VI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis resulted in a sudden generation loss of 25MW and 305MW, respectively, destabilising the grid and causing a partial collapse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the incident, the Ibom Power plant was isolated from the grid and was supplying parts of the Port Harcourt Region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis further minimised the effect of the system disturbance. TCN confirms that the affected section of the grid has been fully restored and stabilised,\u201d Ms Mbah said.<\/p>\n<p>Mbah reiterated TCN\u2019s commitment to enhancing the resilience and reliability of the grid and pledged to continue investing in measures to strengthen its infrastructure<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>However, Mbah said power had been restored after the grid collapsed for the fifth time in 2024.
