{"id":319322,"date":"2024-04-18T00:32:16","date_gmt":"2024-04-17T23:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=319322"},"modified":"2024-04-18T00:32:16","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T23:32:16","slug":"court-grants-efcc-warrant-to-arrest-yahaya-bello","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/18\/court-grants-efcc-warrant-to-arrest-yahaya-bello\/","title":{"rendered":"Court grants EFCC warrant to arrest Yahaya Bello"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Justice Emeka Nwite, while ruling on the motion, also directed that the former governor be produced before him on Thursday, April 18, for arraignment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an arrest warrant to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to enable the agency arrest<br \/>\nYahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>The warrant was issued following an ex parte motion filed by the EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Emeka Nwite, while ruling on the motion, also directed that the former governor be produced before him on Thursday, April 18, for arraignment.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cIt is hereby ordered as follows:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat an order of this honourable court is hereby made directing and\/or issuing a warrant for the immediate arrest of the defendant to bring him before this honourable court for arraignment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat case is adjourned to the 18th day of April 2024 for arraignment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a Lokoja High Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/17\/kogi-court-indefinitely-bars-efcc-from-arresting-prosecuting-ex-gov-yahaya-bello\/\">restrained the EFCC<\/a> from arresting, detaining and prosecuting the immediate past governor of Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the incumbent governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, on Wednesday, came to the aid of the embattled former governor of the state and helped him escape arrest by operatives of the EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>Ododo\u2019s arrived at Yahaya Bello residence with heavy security at about 2:30 pm on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>About two hours later, at exactly 4:20 pm, Ododo\u2019s entourage drove out with Bello in the governor\u2019s car.<\/p>\n<p>About 10 minutes after the governor and former governor left, EFCC operatives laying siege to Bello\u2019s home retreated from Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Emeka Nwite, while ruling on the motion, also directed that the former governor be produced before him on Thursday, April 18, for arraignment.
