{"id":320068,"date":"2024-04-23T11:13:53","date_gmt":"2024-04-23T10:13:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=320068"},"modified":"2024-04-23T11:13:53","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T10:13:53","slug":"breaking-court-orders-efcc-to-serve-yahaya-bello-letter-of-fraud-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/23\/breaking-court-orders-efcc-to-serve-yahaya-bello-letter-of-fraud-charges\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Court Orders EFCC To Serve Yahaya Bello Letter Of Fraud Charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The application was presented by Lead counsel for the anti-graft agency, Kemi Pinheiro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to serve the embattled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/23\/yahaya-bello-efcc-denies-disobeying-court-order\/\">Yahaya Bello<\/a> the charges of fraud allegation against him<\/p>\n<p>The presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite, ruled that the charges alleging an N80 billion fraud against Bello, who is the immediate past governor of Kogi State, should served through his legal representative, Abdulwahab Mohammed.<\/p>\n<p>The Tuesday ruling was sequel to an application by the EFCC for substituted service on Bello.<\/p>\n<p>The application was presented by Lead counsel for the anti-graft agency, Kemi Pinheiro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, Bello\u2019s lawyer, Abdulwahab Mohammed, refused to accept the charges and proof of evidence.<\/p>\n<p>However, Justice Nwite ordered him to accept it. Despite Mohammed\u2019s request for a junior lawyer in his team, AI Musa, to accept the charges on behalf of the former governor, the Judge rejected the plea.<\/p>\n<p>During Tuesday\u2019s proceedings, Yahaya Bello was once again absent from court but was represented by his lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Justice Nwite issued a bench warrant against Bello following an application by the EFCC. The EFCC had declared the former governor wanted due to his persistent absence in court and evasion of the criminal charges against him<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The
