{"id":321836,"date":"2024-05-07T15:01:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-07T14:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=321836"},"modified":"2024-05-07T15:01:16","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T14:01:16","slug":"full-list-16-banking-transactions-exempted-from-new-cbns-cybersecurity-levy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/07\/full-list-16-banking-transactions-exempted-from-new-cbns-cybersecurity-levy\/","title":{"rendered":"Full list: 16 banking transactions exempted from new CBN\u2019s cybersecurity levy"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>According to the circular, the cybersecurity charge would take effect two weeks from May 6, 2024<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/07\/cbn-orders-bank-to-deduct-cybersecurity-levy-on-all-electronic-transfers\/\">Central Bank of Nigeria<\/a> (CBN) on Monday directed all financial institutions to start deducting a 0.5 per cent cybersecurity levy on all electronic transactions within the country.<\/p>\n<p>The apex bank&#8217;s directive was contained in a circular signed by the Director, Payments System Management Department, Chibuzo Efobi; and the Director, Financial Policy and Regulation Department, Haruna Mustafa.<\/p>\n<p>According to the circular, the cybersecurity charge would take effect two weeks from May 6, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The apex bank, in the circular, directed to all commercial, merchant, non-interest, and payment service banks, among others; to start the implementation of the cybersecurity charges after two weeks of the information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe levy shall be applied at the point of electronic transfer origination, then deducted and remitted by the financial institution. The deducted amount shall be reflected in the customer\u2019s account with the narration, \u2018Cybersecurity Levy,\u2019\u201d the circular partly read.<\/p>\n<p>However, the CBN listed 16 banking transactions were excluded from the new cybersecurity levy.<\/p>\n<p>The exempted transactions are listed below:<\/p>\n<p>1. Loan disbursements and repayments<\/p>\n<p>2. Salary payments<\/p>\n<p>3. Intra-account transfers within the same bank or between different banks for the same customer<\/p>\n<p>4. Intra-bank transfers between customers of the same bank<\/p>\n<p>5. Letters of Credits<\/p>\n<p>11. Banks\u2019 recapitalisation-related funding \u2013 only bulk funds movement from collection accounts<\/p>\n<p>12. Savings and deposits, including transactions involving long-term investments such as Treasury Bills, Bonds, and Commercial Papers<\/p>\n<p>13. Government Social Welfare Programmes transactions e.g. Pension payments<\/p>\n<p>14. Non-profit and charitable transactions, including donations to registered non-profit organisations or charities<\/p>\n<p>15. Educational institutions\u2019 transactions, including tuition payments and other transactions involving schools, universities, or other educational institutions<\/p>\n<p>16.
