{"id":322333,"date":"2024-05-10T18:24:37","date_gmt":"2024-05-10T17:24:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=322333"},"modified":"2024-05-10T18:24:37","modified_gmt":"2024-05-10T17:24:37","slug":"kwara-63-year-old-land-agent-dies-in-detention-after-court-denies-him-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/10\/kwara-63-year-old-land-agent-dies-in-detention-after-court-denies-him-bail\/","title":{"rendered":"Kwara: 63-year-old land agent dies in detention after court denies him bail"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>He was reportedly involved in land deals that led to a legal dispute which landed him in the prison<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>One Alhaji Taye Hussein Abubakar has died while in detention at the Oke Kura Correctional Facility, Ilorin, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/10\/kwara-cleric-arrested-for-defiling-three-minors\/\">Kwara State<\/a> capital.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased, a 63-year-old land agent, was said to have been detained at the facility for over four months before his passing on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>He was reportedly involved in land deals that led to a legal dispute which landed him in the prison.<\/p>\n<p>A relation of the deceased told newsmen that the judiciary and the authorities of the correctional facility had a hand in his death.<\/p>\n<p>He said he was treated unjustly and not given fair hearing by the court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was involved in land deals that resulted in court matters. The court released him on bail but he could not appear in court on the day when he was to attend court because he was sick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo he was picked up and detained since then, about four or five months ago. And he was not brought to court since then but abandoned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least, he should have been given a second chance. How could he have got money to repay those involved in the land deals if he was kept in prison? The judge was approached and begged to release him on bail with some sureties to stand for him but all to no avail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, on Friday, we learnt he was rushed to hospital. Some said he died on the way to hospital while some others said that he died while receiving treatment. His health condition was not fine before his death and the judge knew about it,\u201d the relative said.<\/p>\n<p>In his reaction, the spokesman of the correctional facility in the state, Phillip Adegbulugbe, confirmed the death of the land agent, saying that he died in hospital of illness related to kidney problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was taken to General hospital, Ilorin where he died. I saw his hospital file stating the illness. He was taken to hospital on Thursday evening and reportedly died at about 8:00 am today, Friday. He didn\u2019t die in the facility as some people were saying.
