{"id":323362,"date":"2024-05-17T16:21:21","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T15:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=323362"},"modified":"2024-05-17T16:21:21","modified_gmt":"2024-05-17T15:21:21","slug":"student-loan-to-start-with-federal-institutions-nigerian-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/17\/student-loan-to-start-with-federal-institutions-nigerian-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Student loan to start with federal institutions \u2014 Nigerian govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong><strong>Student loan application portal will be opened on the 24th of May for loan applications<\/strong><\/strong><br \/>\n<hr \/>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Federal Government said the student loan scheme will be rolled out in phases, starting with the federal institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The Managing Director, Nigerian Education Loan Fund, Akintunde Swayerr disclosed this in an interview with Arise Television on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Swayerr said the student loan application portal will be opened on the 24th of May for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/16\/just-in-fg-announces-date-to-begin-application-of-student-loan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">loan applications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the government is currently \u201cin the midst of a sensitization campaign to begin to let Nigerians know how the scheme will work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The MD noted that the loan scheme seeks to bridge financing gap for students in Nigeria enabling them to become more resourceful, eventually aiding the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cOn the 3rd of April 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed into law a monumental act that seeks to bridge the financing gap for applicants who wants to get a higher education that is tertiary level;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026and who wants to get vocational training to get proper qualifications that enables them to be more marketable and useful to the Nigerian society.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fund covers 100 percent of all the fees of tertiary institutions. There\u2019s also upkeep for the student.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swayerr noted that this plan will be rolled out in schemes and the first being the public institutions because of the large number of students in that sector requiring financial aid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to roll this plan out in phases. The first phrase will be with federal institutions then to others. It\u2019s going to be the public sector at the beginning because that\u2019s where we find the bulk of students that perhaps need the financing cover and are most vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a system that hopefully makes this have national spread and some degree of equal opportunities for those who have the desire, capacity, eligibility to engage in this scheme,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student loan application portal will be opened on the 24th of May for loan applications The Federal Government said the student loan scheme will be rolled out in phases, starting with the federal institutions.
