{"id":323787,"date":"2024-05-20T13:13:43","date_gmt":"2024-05-20T12:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=323787"},"modified":"2024-05-20T13:14:17","modified_gmt":"2024-05-20T12:14:17","slug":"breaking-court-rejects-nnamdi-kanus-plea-for-bail-house-arrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/20\/breaking-court-rejects-nnamdi-kanus-plea-for-bail-house-arrest\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Court rejects Nnamdi Kanu&#8217;s plea for bail, house arrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Kanu is standing trial on a seven-count charge bordering on treasonable felony as preferred against him by the federal government.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A federal high court in Abuja has dismissed another bail application filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).<\/p>\n<p>Justice Binta Nyako, dismissed the request made by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/04\/18\/nnamdi-kanus-trial-faces-indefinite-adjournment-threat\/\"><strong>Nnamdi Kanu<\/strong><\/a> for the restoration of his revoked bail and the removal from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to a house arrest or prison custody.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge on Monday said that the same request had been brought before her by Kanu but was dismissed for want of merit.<\/p>\n<p>In a ruling on Kanu\u2019s request, Justice Nyako said that she found as a fact that Kanu jumped the bail earlier granted him and escaped out of the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge also held that the sureties who stood for him in the earlier bail had applied to be discharged and had been discharged on the ground that they could not locate Kanu and did not know his whereabouts.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Nyako said that the only option left for Kanu was to go to the Court of Appeal and exercise his right of appeal.<\/p>\n<p>The Judge disagreed with Kanu\u2019s lead counsel that the Supreme Court held that the earlier bail granted him ought not to have been revoked, adding that she had perused the Supreme Court judgment copy and did not see the claim of the lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>As at press time, Kanu is shouting on top of his voice, insisting not to stand trial before any court in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He is claiming that any attempt to put him on trial would amount to a breach of Nigeria\u2019s Constitution and the international laws.<\/p>\n<p>This is a developing story\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kanu is standing trial on a seven-count charge bordering on treasonable felony as preferred against him by the federal government.
