{"id":324960,"date":"2024-05-28T09:15:21","date_gmt":"2024-05-28T08:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=324960"},"modified":"2024-05-28T09:15:21","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T08:15:21","slug":"to-mark-25-years-of-democracy-tinubu-to-address-nass-on-wednesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/28\/to-mark-25-years-of-democracy-tinubu-to-address-nass-on-wednesday\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;To mark 25 years of democracy&#8217; &#8212; Tinubu to address NASS on Wednesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Other than during the president\u2019s budget presentation, joint sittings of the senate and house of representatives are rare.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of state, will also deliver a paper on \u2018Reflections on the Journey to Democracy\u2019.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>President Bola Tinubu will on Wednesday address the members of the National Assembly in a joint session.<\/p>\n<p>The clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambawal announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Tambawal, in a statement in the early hours of Tuesday, said that the president will address the lawmakers in the newly renovated chamber to mark 25 years of democracy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is to inform Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members that as part of the event to commemorate 25 years of unbroken democracy and Legislature in Nigeria, there will be a joint sitting of both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Wednesday 29 May, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, will address the joint sitting on state of the nation and also commission the National Assembly Library.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDistinguished Senators and Honourable Members are expected to be seated by 9 a.m,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that President Tinubu ordered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/05\/22\/tinubu-wont-celebrate-first-year-as-president-fg\/\"><strong>low-key celebration<\/strong> <\/a>of his first year in office.<\/p>\n<p>Also expected at the sitting are Vice-President Kashim Shettima; AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, governor of Kwara and chairman of the Nigeria Governors\u2019 Forum; Hope Uzodinma, governor of Imo; and George Akume, secretary to the government of the federation.<\/p>\n<p>Others are Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to the president; and Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).<\/p>\n<p>Gbajabiamila, who served as speaker of the 9th house (2019-2023), will deliver a paper on \u2018Reflections on the House\u2019, while David Mark, president of the 6th &amp; 7th senate (2007-2015), will speak on \u2018Reflections on the Senate\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of state, will also deliver a paper on \u2018Reflections on the Journey to Democracy\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Other than during the president\u2019s budget presentation, joint sittings of the senate and house of representatives are rare.
