They are often presented as fun, light-hearted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2021\/05\/19\/why-nigerian-crypto-traders-hoarder-are-agitated-over-recent-bitcoin-dip-price-crash\/\">cryptocurrencies<\/a> promoted through social media communities and sometimes through celebrity endorsements. However, these coins are not intended to serve as a medium of exchange for goods and services, nor as digital representations of capital market products like shares, debentures, units of collective investment schemes, derivatives contracts, commodities, or other financial instruments or investments.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC emphasized that meme coins lack fundamental value and are purely speculative. They advised the general public to be cautious and understand that these coins do not offer any inherent value.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCapital Market Operators are by this notice warned not to associate with instruments that fall outside the SEC\u2019s regulatory purview. Such instruments should not in any manner be distributed or monitored through any capital market mechanism,\u201d the SEC stated.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the commission clarified that it does not recognize $davido as an investment product or investable asset class under its regulatory oversight.
