{"id":327865,"date":"2024-06-20T13:47:27","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T12:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=327865"},"modified":"2024-06-20T14:03:39","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T13:03:39","slug":"just-in-nigerias-economy-in-shambles-prp-calls-for-urgent-review-of-imf-world-bank-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/06\/20\/just-in-nigerias-economy-in-shambles-prp-calls-for-urgent-review-of-imf-world-bank-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"[JUST-IN]: &#8216;Nigeria&#8217;s economy in shambles&#8217; &#8212;\u00a0 PRP calls for urgent review in FG&#8217;s adoption of IMF\/World Bank policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The PRP said increase in electricity tariff was unreasonable.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The party also noted increase in taxes and interest rates, despite economic hardship.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has sounded the alarm on Nigeria&#8217;s economic crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The party blamed the government&#8217;s reliance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/06\/08\/imf-predicts-strong-growth-for-nigerias-economy-in-five-years\/\"><strong>International Monetary Fund (IMF)<\/strong> <\/a>and World Bank policies for the country&#8217;s woes.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by Falalu Bello, PRP national chairman, on Thursday, the party said the government&#8217;s continued use of these policies has led to unprecedented hardship for Nigerians, with the country&#8217;s misery index reaching an all-time high.<\/p>\n<p>Bello said over 300 companies have closed due to harsh economic conditions, with many more on the brink of collapse.<\/p>\n<p>The PRP National Chairman: &#8220;The government&#8217;s economic policies have failed Nigerians; we urge the government to rethink its approach and prioritize the welfare of Nigerians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the PRP is demanding a comprehensive review of the economy, including a reduction in the cost of governance and an increase in workers&#8217; pay.<\/p>\n<p>Bello added that the party is also calling for people-oriented agricultural and manufacturing policies to address the country&#8217;s economic challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nigeria&#8217;s economic crisis has led to soaring poverty, inflation, and unemployment rates,&#8221; the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The country&#8217;s misery index, which measures the combined effects of inflation, unemployment, and poverty, has reached an all-time high.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The PRP also called for a review of the economy comes as Nigerians continue to struggle with the harsh economic conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will continue to pressure the government until they listen to the plight of Nigerians,&#8221; said Bello.<\/p>\n<p>He added that as the economic crisis continues to bite, Nigerians can only hope that a solution comes soon.<\/p>\n<p>The PRP&#8217;s call for a review of the economy may be the catalyst for change that the country so desperately needs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The PRP said increase in electricity tariff was unreasonable.
