{"id":328184,"date":"2024-06-22T20:49:55","date_gmt":"2024-06-22T19:49:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=328184"},"modified":"2024-06-22T20:49:55","modified_gmt":"2024-06-22T19:49:55","slug":"two-ex-bankers-arrested-for-stealing-dead-customers-n4-2m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/06\/22\/two-ex-bankers-arrested-for-stealing-dead-customers-n4-2m\/","title":{"rendered":"Two ex-bankers arrested for stealing dead customer\u2019s N4.2m"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Oyewole disclosed that the criminal activity of the suspects was uncovered after the family of the deceased approached the bank for probate processing and subsequently petitioned the EFCC<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Two former staff of Union Bank in Makurdi, Benue State capital, have been apprehended for allegedly stealing of N4,199,500 belonging to a deceased customer of the bank.<\/p>\n<p>They were arrested by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/06\/21\/efcc-pursues-criminal-charges-against-binance-executive-gambaryan\/\">Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)<\/a> on Friday in Makurdi.<\/p>\n<p>According to a statement issued by the agency\u2019s Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Saturday in Abuja, the suspects are identified as Idah Ogoh and Agbo Okwute.<\/p>\n<p>Oyewole disclosed that the criminal activity of the suspects was uncovered after the family of the deceased approached the bank for probate processing and subsequently petitioned the EFCC.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read: \u201cTheir arrest followed a petition against them by the bank on fraudulent debits on a deceased customer, Emmanuel Azer Agenna\u2019s account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir dealings were uncovered when the family of the deceased approached the bank for the balance on the account of the deceased for probate processing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe family disputed the balance given to them by the bank and subsequently sent a complaint to the bank regarding unauthorised debits on the account,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, based on their complaints, the bank carried out an internal investigation and its findings revealed that a debit card was procured on the deceased\u2019s customer account on May 10, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the debit card was procured by Ifah Ogoh, one of the bank\u2019s Sales and Service Associates which was authorised by the bank on the same date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurther findings by the bank showed that the procured card by Ogoh was handed over to another Sales and Service Associate, Agbo Okwute, who eventually delivered the card to an accomplice for transfer and withdrawal of funds from the account of the deceased.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral withdrawals were allegedly made by the suspects through the accomplice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oyewole disclosed that the criminal activity of the suspects was uncovered after the family of the deceased approached the bank for probate processing and subsequently petitioned the EFCC Two former staff of Union Bank in Makurdi, Benue State capital, have been apprehended for allegedly stealing of N4,199,500 belonging to a deceased customer of the bank.
