{"id":331170,"date":"2024-07-16T07:55:18","date_gmt":"2024-07-16T06:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=331170"},"modified":"2024-07-16T08:04:04","modified_gmt":"2024-07-16T07:04:04","slug":"court-announces-date-to-deliver-judgment-in-offa-robbery-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/07\/16\/court-announces-date-to-deliver-judgment-in-offa-robbery-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Court announces date to deliver judgment in Offa robbery case"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The reservation of judgment followed the adoption of final written addresses by counsels to the State and the defendant<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/07\/07\/kwara-police-arrest-ritualist-arrested-over-attempt-to-slit-throat-of-teenage-pepper-hawker\/\">Kwara State<\/a> High Court has reserved judgement in the 2018 Offa robbery case for August 2, 2024,.<\/p>\n<p>Six suspects are standing trial for the the deadly robbery attack which happened in 2018 and left over 30 people in the ancient town dead.<\/p>\n<p>The reservation of judgment followed the adoption of final written addresses by counsels to the State and the defendant.<\/p>\n<p>Counsels, Rotimi Jacob (SAN) for the state and Mathew Emeribe, for the defence, on Monday, before the presiding judge, Justice Haleema Salman, adopted their final written addresses.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution and defence teams adopted their addresses one after the other on points of law.<\/p>\n<p>However, Justice Haleema said the August 2, 2024 date for judgement is tentative.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that six suspects, a policeman, Michael Adikwu (deceased), Ayoade Akinnibosun, Azeez Salahudeen, Niyi Ogundiran, Ibikunle Ogunleye and Adeola Abraham were arrested in connection with the bloody armed robbery incident.<\/p>\n<p>Ayoade Akinnibosun and four others are currently standing trial in the case which began on November 11, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>On April 5, 2018, some suspected armed robbers attacked five commercial banks in the ancient Offa town in the Offa local government area of Kwara State, killing over 30 persons in the process, including nine policemen.<\/p>\n<p>The five suspects, Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham and two others were charged to court by the police for criminal conspiracy to rob the banks, murder of nine policemen and other citizens, and illegal possession of firearms.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Adikwu died in police custody, while the remaining five pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The reservation of judgment followed the adoption of final written addresses by counsels to the State and the defendant A Kwara State High Court has reserved judgement in the 2018 Offa robbery case for August 2, 2024,.
