{"id":332037,"date":"2024-07-22T13:52:40","date_gmt":"2024-07-22T12:52:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=332037"},"modified":"2024-07-22T13:52:40","modified_gmt":"2024-07-22T12:52:40","slug":"abba-yusuf-kano-will-conduct-lg-elections-agrees-to-supreme-court-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/07\/22\/abba-yusuf-kano-will-conduct-lg-elections-agrees-to-supreme-court-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"Abba Yusuf: Kano will conduct LG elections&#8230;. agrees to supreme court ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>On July 12, the Supreme Court last ruled in favour of local government financial autonomy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Governor Yusuf assured of readiness to conduct local government elections in Kano state.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced that his administration is prepared to hold local government elections in the near future.<\/p>\n<p>This decision aligns with the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/07\/11\/breaking-supreme-court-grants-fg-full-financial-autonomy-to-lga\/\"><strong>granted<\/strong><\/a> financial independence to local governments.<\/p>\n<p>The governor&#8217;s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, released a statement to the press in Kano, revealing that Governor Yusuf made this declaration during a meeting with the leadership of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at the Government House in Kano on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreparations are in top gear by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for the conduct of council polls, and I can assure you this will happen very soon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said the governor stressed his unwavering respect for the rule of law and his commitment to financial prudence, accountability, and transparency in governance at all levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernor Yusuf assured free, fair, and credible local government elections, urging opposition parties to try their luck as his government will not interfere with the electoral process,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>It reads further: \u201cOur administration has allowed the previous LG Executive Councils in the 44 LGAs to finish their tenure despite pressure from within; this is out of respect we have for the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, our respect for accountability and consideration of the recent Supreme Court judgment triggered our readiness to conduct council elections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will soon invite you again for the selection of our party\u2019s candidates to be fielded in the 44 LGAs, who will run for the offices of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors. We shall run peaceful campaigns with the belief that the majority of Kano people will vote for the NNPP,\u201d Gov.
