{"id":334798,"date":"2024-08-13T19:02:11","date_gmt":"2024-08-13T18:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=334798"},"modified":"2024-08-13T19:02:11","modified_gmt":"2024-08-13T18:02:11","slug":"nelfund-fraudulent-website-targeting-nigerians-with-fake-visa-promises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/08\/13\/nelfund-fraudulent-website-targeting-nigerians-with-fake-visa-promises\/","title":{"rendered":"NELFUND: Fraudulent website targeting Nigerians with fake visa promises"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Scam website is advertised on Facebook, directing users to a different site.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>NELFund warned against engaging with the site or providing personal info.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>A warning has been issued by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) about a fraudulent website impersonating the organization to scam individuals seeking visa sponsorships.<\/p>\n<p>The fund said this fake website falsely promises foreign visa sponsorship, but has no affiliation with them.<\/p>\n<p>The scam website is being advertised on Facebook and directs users to a different website.<\/p>\n<p>NELFund&#8217;s head of PR confirmed that the website is illegally using NELFund&#8217;s name and logo.<\/p>\n<p>He said NELFund&#8217;s sole purpose is to provide educational loans to eligible Nigerian students studying in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the organization does not offer visa sponsorships or related services, and any claims to the contrary are entirely false.<\/p>\n<p>Ayitogo said the website, being promoted on Facebook, redirected users to a site called \u201clabari.com.ng\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He clarified that NELFund has no affiliation with such a website or any similar scheme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNELFund\u2019s mission is solely to provide educational loans to eligible Nigerian students to further their academic pursuits within Nigeria,\u201d Ayitogo said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNELFund does not offer visa sponsorships or related services, and any claims to the contrary are entirely false and misleading.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ayitogo added that the fraudulent website was using the NELFund logo without authorisation to deceive the public.<\/p>\n<p>He said the fund strongly advises Nigerians to refrain from engaging with the site or providing any personal info.<\/p>\n<p>Ayitogo said NELFund is steps to address the situation, having reported the matter to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge the public to rely solely on the information provided through NELFund\u2019s official channels, including the website, www.nelf.gov.ng and verified social media accounts,\u201d the PR head said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny communication from NELFund will be through these channels, and the public is encouraged to verify any suspicious information directly with us.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scam website is advertised on Facebook, directing users to a different site.
