{"id":334997,"date":"2024-08-15T11:04:35","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T10:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=334997"},"modified":"2024-08-15T11:05:25","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T10:05:25","slug":"efcc-n50bn-given-to-nelfund-part-of-recovered-crime-proceeds-remitted-to-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/08\/15\/efcc-n50bn-given-to-nelfund-part-of-recovered-crime-proceeds-remitted-to-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC: N50bn given to NELFUND part of recovered crime proceeds remitted to FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>There were reports that the EFCC \u201cdonated\u201d the sum to NELFUND.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said the N50 billion it handed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was not a donation from the commission.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/08\/13\/breaking-efccs-official-page-vanishes-on-x-platform\/\"><strong>statement<\/strong><\/a> on Thursday, Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, said the fund was not a donation but \u201cpart of the recovered proceeds of crime remitted to the government\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu in furtherance of his social intervention policy for the most vulnerable segments of the population, decided in his wisdom, to plough the money into funding the critically acclaimed students loan scheme,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not the place of the Commission to determine where the government commits recovered proceeds of crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut the student\u2019s loan scheme is a salutary innovation which has the potential to reduce youth involvement in criminality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Commission\u2019s Chairman, Ola Olukoyde disclosed during a courtesy visit to the Commission by the NELFUND\u2019s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr on August, 13, 2026, the EFCC will monitor the use of the funds to ensure accountability and the realization of the objectives of the Scheme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his speech on the #EndBadGovernance protests on August 4, President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of the sum to NELFUND.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis week, I ordered the release of an additional N50billion Naira each for NELFUND \u2013 the student loan, and Credit Corporation \u2014 from the proceeds of crime recovered by the EFCC,\u201d Tinubu said.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, there were reports that the EFCC \u201cdonated\u201d the sum to NELFUND.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were reports that the EFCC \u201cdonated\u201d the sum to NELFUND.
