{"id":336226,"date":"2024-08-26T07:43:19","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T06:43:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=336226"},"modified":"2024-08-26T07:50:36","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T06:50:36","slug":"a-liability-pdp-moves-to-suspend-dino-melaye-over-attack-on-partys-natl-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/08\/26\/a-liability-pdp-moves-to-suspend-dino-melaye-over-attack-on-partys-natl-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;A liability\u2019: PDP moves to suspend Dino Melaye over attack on party&#8217;s Nat&#8217;l leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>They said the suspension of Melaye would herald the restoration of the party\u2019s integrity and focus on viable leadership.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2023\/11\/10\/kogi-state-government-encourages-massive-voter-turnout\/\">Kogi State<\/a> chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has begun moves to suspend former Senator Dino Melaye.<\/p>\n<p>The party leadership in the middle belt state said Melaye has become a liability to the party.<\/p>\n<p>PDP elders in the state led by Ibrahim Dansofo, has since instructed the local executive committee in Ijumu to initiate immediate suspension proceedings against Melaye.<\/p>\n<p>This, they said, would herald the restoration of the party\u2019s integrity and focus on viable leadership.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Melaye said the acting national chairman of the PDP, Iliya Damagum, Samuel Anyanwu and Umar Bature have destroyed the former ruling party.<\/p>\n<p>Melaye claimed that the three chieftains had done an irreparable damage to PDP.<\/p>\n<p>Condemning his remark, the party elders said Melaye has become a political lightweight and his ambitions have crumbled to the point where he can no longer win a local councillor position.<\/p>\n<p>The Dansofo-led elders characterized Melaye as a liability, suggesting that his continued association with the party serves only to negotiate personal gain with the ruling party rather than contribute positively to the PDP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSenator Melaye has become a burden to the party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis accusations against the current leadership are hypocritical, as he himself was granted a governorship ticket despite the party\u2019s awareness of his inability to win even a primary election,\u201d Dansofo said.<\/p>\n<p>The Kogi PDP placed blame for the party\u2019s current struggles squarely on Melaye\u2019s shoulders, claiming that his nomination was a significant misstep that has led to their present predicament.<\/p>\n<p>They further called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to reevaluate their support for Melaye, urging them to distance themselves from someone they described as a \u201cbondage\u201d and a \u201cbig-time liability\u201d for the party.<\/p>\n<p>They called on the Nigerian public to disregard Melaye\u2019s remarks, labelling them as the desperate words of a man whose political relevance has long since faded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kogi PDP is determined to move forward, reclaim its strength and rebuild its reputation as a formidable political force in the state, the stakeholders ask Dino Melaye to account for billions he collected in the name of governorship election,\u201d they added<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>They said the suspension of Melaye would herald the restoration of the party\u2019s integrity and focus on viable leadership.
