{"id":336502,"date":"2024-08-28T09:50:51","date_gmt":"2024-08-28T08:50:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=336502"},"modified":"2024-08-28T09:50:51","modified_gmt":"2024-08-28T08:50:51","slug":"16-killed-three-injured-in-ore-ondo-road-accident-says-frsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/08\/28\/16-killed-three-injured-in-ore-ondo-road-accident-says-frsc\/","title":{"rendered":"16 Killed, Three Injured In Ore-Ondo Road Accident, Says FRSC"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Three persons were seriously injured while two others escaped unhurt<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>The Ondo Sector Commander identified over speeding as a major cause of accidents on Nigeria roads.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/06\/24\/frsc-debunks-plans-to-abolish-patrol-points-in-south-east\/\"><strong>Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)<\/strong><\/a> in Ondo, has disclosed a fatal crash on the Ore-Ondo highway, claiming the lives of 16 individuals.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the fatalities, three people sustained injuries in the Monday night accident, according to the agency.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Wednesday, Samuel Ibitoye, the command&#8217;s public relations officer, revealed that the collision occurred between a Toyota Hiace bus and a truck at the Ajue community along the Ore-Ondo highway.<\/p>\n<p>Ibitoye attributed the crash to reckless driving, specifically citing dangerous overtaking maneuvers and speeding, which resulted in a direct impact between the two vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The accident happened at 8pm on Monday night and the rescue operation ended at 11pm,&#8221; Ibitoye said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The accident involved a Toyota Hiace and a truck, with two other passengers who escaped the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Preliminary investigation revealed the cause of the incident to over speeding and wrongful overtaking which unfortunately led to a head collision.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Investigations on what led to the accident has not been concluded.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Ibitoye emphasized the importance of prudent driving practices, urging motorists to adopt a safety-first approach.<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that reckless speeding is a leading factor in the alarming rate of road crashes in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>In March, the Federal Road Safety Corps launched a targeted crackdown on unsafe driving habits, instructing top officials to ramp up enforcement against vehicle overloading and nocturnal journeys.<\/p>\n<p>This move aims to bolster road safety measures and decrease the frequency of accidents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three persons were seriously injured while two others escaped unhurt The Ondo Sector Commander identified over speeding as a major cause of accidents on Nigeria roads.
