{"id":336770,"date":"2024-08-30T11:32:14","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T10:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/?p=336770"},"modified":"2024-08-30T11:32:14","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T10:32:14","slug":"ondo-shifts-lg-elections-to-2025-over-non-compliance-from-parties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.withinnigeria.com\/news\/2024\/08\/30\/ondo-shifts-lg-elections-to-2025-over-non-compliance-from-parties\/","title":{"rendered":"Ondo Shifts LG Elections To 2025 Over &#8216;Non Compliance From Parties&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>The ODIEC chairman said that the distribution of non-sensitive materials to the 18 local governments would take place from Jan. 6, 2025 to Jan. 10, 2025.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>The IPAC chairman assured the commission and residents of IPAC\u2019s participation in the election.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has announced postponement of the local government elections in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The new date for the LGA conduct is on January 18, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of the commission, Dr Joseph Aremo, disclosed the new date at a Stakeholders\u2019 meeting held at the Commission\u2019s headquarters in Akure, the state capital.<\/p>\n<p>The elections which were earlier rescheduled to hold on July 13, 2024, were thereafter postponed indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dr Aremo, the elections were never cancelled but rescheduled due to the non-compliance of political parties with the electoral guidelines and processes.<\/p>\n<p>Aremo clarified that the postponement of the elections became imperative as the commission was tired of continuous rescheduling.<\/p>\n<p>He assured the residents of the state of ODIEC\u2019s readiness to conduct free, fair and credible elections, noting that the exercise would be transparent.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the political parties that had conducted primaries before the postponement to forward the validated list of candidates to the commission.<\/p>\n<p>He further outlined the continuation of activities for the conduct of the elections, noting that the completion of political parties primaries and validation of candidates will take place from November 25 to December 7, 2024,<\/p>\n<p>He also said December 9, this year is the last day for the submission of forms for particulars of candidates and the list of candidates by political parties.<\/p>\n<p>Aremo further explained that the substitution of candidates by political parties will occur from December 12 to December 13, while the collection and submission of nomination forms will commence from December 16 to December 18.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, campaigns by political parties will kick off on December 23 and end at midnight on January 16, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman added that the distribution of non-sensitive materials to the 18 local governments would take place from January 6 to January 10, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of the Ondo State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Olaoluwa Adesanya, expressed satisfaction with the ODIEC chairman\u2019s presentation on the preparedness of the commission for the elections.<\/p>\n<p>He promised that the political parties will cooperate with ODIEC to ensure a smooth conduct of the elections.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ODIEC chairman said that the distribution of non-sensitive materials to the 18 local governments would take place from Jan. 6, 2025 to Jan. 10, 2025.
